Jenn: How old is your son and where exactly did you go, if I may ask? My son is 12 and was diagnosed with Asperger's 4 years ago. We are in the Oak Cliff area and I have been looking for local treatment forever without driving to or Plano. If they have just started seeing children, maybe it is an option we hadn't heard of yet.

Had ds intake interview today. Now we wait again

It took over a month to find a place to get his aspergers evaluation done that was within reasonable driving distance from me. Being only 30 minutes south of Dallas TX I was surprised there wasn't more choices. No one could take his insurance. Dr was frustrated and I was frustrated then I got lucky and the last place I called gave me another number to a place way too far to drive but I called out of desperation and then I lucked out and they had a office only 15 minutes from me. Today we got in for an intake interview. Never thought it would

take so long to find a place. The place is a MHMR that just started taking children. So we did all the paper work answered all the questions. They said someone will call by the end of next week to set up

the psychology evaluation. They said it's a 3 hour evaluation. They gave me all kinds of paper work, suggested that I place him on all kinds

of list for help when he turns 18 because the waitlist is 10years long.

Then she said if he does get a diagnosis of aspergers strongly suggest I

do SSI to get him onto traditional medicade which will be easier to get

therapies. He has a plan medicade right now. I did not realize he aspergers qualified for SSI. Then she went over tons of other services he'd qualify for. It was a lot. I just want to know what he has and then

I'd comprehend all the services, plans, and help out there. It was just

a lot.
