504 and iep

504 plans don't cost the school any money as far as hiring an aide or any other accommodations the school would have to pay for. If you have an IEP they HAVE to provide you with whatever is on that IEP.. VERY important to know your rights and know exactly what you want as far as accommodations. Once it's drawn up it's kind of hard to change.

we do have both a 504 and iep. The 504 deals more with his student rights and the iep for educational needs. The 504 also makes concessions for behavior. We have both. ------------------------------------

Yes Candy. That is correct.

- 504 does refer to rights of all citizens to have education available to improve themselves, regardless of all forms of discrimination.

- IEP is used specifically towards each child's future, using studies based on one's success in each subject being tought to learn.

My question is - How does "concessions" come into this? Is "concessions" in other words "alternatives?" May that sentence be rephrased please?

I'm sure ther's no doubt your child's School District would have both, as Federal DOE requires to have both. :)

Never heard of someone having both, because your rights are covered 10 fold more on the IEP and the accomodations part of a 504 can be included in the IEP. If he went from a 504 to the IEP later, most likely the 504 is no longer valid or even needed. Tucker

My son's school told me that once he was on his IEP, the 504 was null and void. Everything that was in his 504 was added to his IEP. The 504 is the step before and IEP.Jenn

The IEP is basically a 504, but more then that. The school absolutely HAS to follow the IEP. The IEP helps with  educational and behavioral issues to accomadate the needs of the child. I know in my son's IEP, it says he gets to take breaks, etc., so he isn't overloaded with stress. So it does include behavioral too.
