Different professionals will have different opinions about this.

My son was language delayed, has an average IQ but has very Aspie traits of amazing math computation and hyperlexia (he learned how to read and progressed 3 grade levels in decoding in 8 weeks).

One expert said the language delay could change his diagnosis to high functioning autism or pervasive developmental disorder.   Another expert said you could just call him Aspergers with a language delay.

i typed a huge thing here before. but i guess it didnt go through :(. but i went to my psychiatrist last week for my check up with bipolar. she said the first day she met me she thought aspergers. now i was browsing around on google and im finding that most aspergers people have high IQs and verbal IQs and werent lanaguage delayed and have a big vocabulary or a vocabulary they should have. i have a developmental delayed language. i have a vocabualry of a 6th grader. and i have no idea my IQ but its not high maybe average but i dont really know a lot of school information. i was wondering if theres a difference between aspergers and high functioning autism. if so what? and is that true about aspergers.

thanks - catherine
