Guest guest
Hi my son is 12 and he goes to school at 9:45 and it has made an incredible differnce in his overall mood, energy etc. He stays the rest of the day. He goes in to the Special Ed room as soon as he gets there to get all of his assignments caught up with an AIDE and then spends the rest of the day in the classroom. We were having a horrible time getting him up in the morning. Now he gets himself up and gets dressed. I think the greates imporvemetn has been in his attitude since he is no longer dragging. Seems to have improved his overall attitude as well. He is Bipolar and we have many less mood meltdowns than before. I think he was overwhelmed when he was tired. He is only going to school 45 min late but it helps. I am plannning to homeschool next year through Alpha Omega because I do not like the social chaos if middle school BARBIE shortened school day? Hi Everyone, I'm wondering if any of you have opted to have their PID child/or teen attend school halfdays? My son often seems to get tired on a fullday of school and often misses the day after to make up rest. His attendance has been very spotty since this illness emerged although his general health has improved somewhat being on IVIG. Prior to his immune system breakdown he attended fulltime. I'm wondering if a half day would give him a better chance at keeping a normal, though different, schedule, though with I've been reluctant to 'go there' and make it official, but wondering if any of you have your child on a part- time school schedule, or any thoughts? thanks so much, Kate (mom of Ben - CVID, ALPS, enteritis, ring Chromosome18, cerebral palsy, autism...) and three other " normal " (ha!) kids :-) ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Guest guest
Good Morning, is 17 and has been doing an alternative schedule for four years now., It has been great. Some of the things we have tried is taking two on line classes and then the rest of the day on campus. This way she can sleep in and still not fall behind on graduation requirements. This made a tremendous difference in her life. Another thing we did is had her take some on line college classes this year her senior year through running start. It is great the schools pay for the college and they get double credits for the class. She has felt better, less moody, more energy and is able to do her on line classed in the evening or weekends when she isn't as tired. Being a teenager she stayed up at night even though she was tired because she wanted to be " normal " . Just my thoughts about schedules Lorri Kraft( 17 CVID) From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Barbara Jimenez Sent: Tuesday, February 12, 2008 2:20 PM Subject: Re: shortened school day? Guest guest
My son (Tim - age 17) is on a reduced schedule.? You will need to an IEP for your son--I didn't do one until this year and truly regret it.? It really makes working with the school easier because they have to follow it by law. Tim has a homebound teacher who helps coordinate his classes.? This semester (his last at High School), he is doing two on-line virtual high school classes. If you have any questions, let me know!! shortened school day? Hi Everyone, I'm wondering if any of you have opted to have their PID child/or teen attend school halfdays?
