Guest guest
I'm emailing you from my laptop - I am in the hospital. I've been here since late Tuesday night/early Wednesday morning. Sudden onset of vomiting/diarrhea - enough that it was nonstop. They did lab work and the WBC was almost 17 (I think 16.9) initially (that was around 2 a.m. Wed morning). and they said MAYBE it was bacterial gastroenteritis - but it was definitely something bacterial (yet they didn't put me on any antibiotics and still not on them - which I find odd). I was admitted, saw the doc yesterday a.m. and haven't seen him since. They did lab work this a.m. and my WBC is now 3.2! I voiced concern in the drop and the nurse did ask the doctor and he said that it wasn't possible to have that change in such a short period of time - that there must have been a lab error Tues night (yet all the other values were not flawed) We are still waiting on stool cultures to come back. I have to say that I am worried about this mainly because I want to be sure that Will and Sasha haven't been exposed to anything serious - plus, while I am not as sick as I was the other night - I am nowhere near feeling 'well' - I asked the nurse when I might go home - and she said it was up to the doc and then she said that I might be better off going home with a WBC that low (okay...so why is it so low now?) - and I told her that I am not going anywhere until I know what is going on.....The further away from the kids I stay until I know the answer - the better off I am.....and they are. Anyone have any comments or thoughts? Should I really be hi-tailing it out of here - should I stay until I know why the WBC is so low? Is that really low? I just don't want my kids to get this - it would NOT be good - if I had this much trouble with it - they would DEFINITELY not do well. Any input is appreciated. Thanks Stefani
Guest guest
Stef, I am so sorry that you are feeling so bad. I agree with you that you need some answers before you go home. You need to know if in fact your WBC did drop that drastically and why. You also need to know if you are contagious so you need to determine what it is that you have first. If you are contagious then you need to ask how long after starting an antibiotic(if they give you one) that it will be safe for you to be around your kids. Maybe the hospital does not fully understand your situation and that you have to be so careful about passing things on to your kids. (((HUGS))) I pray that you are feeling much better really soon. Guest guest
I agree with Stef completely, esp since your children are so young. They would not understand why you shouldn't hold them. Prayers heading your way. Insist on an answer for your children's sake, if not for yours! @...: triplep_01@...: Thu, 13 Dec 2007 09:25:22 -0800Subject: Re: Need your input Stef, I am so sorry that you are feeling so bad. Guest guest
Donating plasma is where most of our products come from....IE BioLife etc... Need your input Hi all... I am working on our website (the PIDD one) I am revamping it... I want a section of 'Facts about PIDD' but I am not exactly sure what to put....I have a few things....anyone want to chime in? What else do you think is important to put on the main page? I am going to put something about donating blood and becoming a bone marrow donor - any ideas? Thanks Stef
