Guest guest
Del - Buddy thank you very much for replying and opening up this very important topic for discussion in group. So it's MELD looks good on paper but for whom and it's still the same no national organ procurement - transplant or waiting list system and it's still goes by location location location transplant region of the pt in ESLD their Transplant Team and Center the size of the Center or Centers within the same local medical system how many liver transplants they successfully perform yearly and if the pt's region shares locally donated organs or not. Unfortunately it is the only game in town and we must play ball or not. It's like tx meds this is it use it or not it's all we have for you at this time. Before I think it was a little easier on the pt with no MELD number game ok your sick enough your listed for transplant go home and wait for our call or your beeper to go off we gave you. Beep - your up !!!!!!!!!! If it was me now I wouldn't stress or worry over my every changing MELD score. The transplant teams do meet on a regular bases mine did weekly or more if needed to discuss all pt's listed or to be listed play god and back than it was no MELD just who would be # 1 or 2 or 3 or we need to shuffle them around and so on who was a good candidate or not to withstand a tp and have the fight and will to be a survivor and a good primary care giver and support system in place. I played the game I sold myself to them and showed them I was a survivor but I also felt sorry for them choosing to be in god like position and profession to save lives impossible to do for everyone and must vote yes or no life or death. I thanked God for them and to also help them. An angry non-compliant pt is easier to deal with in many ways but a eager willing pt that wants to live will bring tears to their eyes and touch their hearts for life. It is still the pt in ESLD that is suffering and more over the ethics - policies and practices of our so called national medical - transplant and organ donor systems which should not be because we have enough on our plates already.
