Sierra,

My doctor put me on Neurontin due to my shoulders hurting so bad and they

felt like they were coming out of their sockets. It has helped me a whole lot.

Also, I have learned how to sleep on my back but I now can sleep on my side

some too.

Sierra, I had to resort to teaching myself how to sleep on my back. It

works for me.

Wanda,

I am also on Neurontin - just started - 200 mg 3 x per day - it really helps

the pain, but it makes me a bit loopy and not able to drive - they say I will

get used to it - but it has been a week and not difference. How has it

affected you?

We have one of those egg crate things on the mattress - and I make sure I have at least two pillows so I don't compress my neck too much. I, too, sometimes wake up with a sore shoulder. My husband bought me one of those tempurpedic pillows - we call it the "meat" pillow since it feels like a slab of meat - but I didn't find it very helpful. He loves it though!

I like a more firm support in the mattress, so I'm not a fan of air beds. But I find that the egg crate things just makes it enough softer without losing the firmness.

For me, it is my hips that hurt the most, when I sleep on my side. I'm trying to

do the back thing, but my problem there is that when I sleep on my back, I snore

so loudly that I wake myself up. geez.

Dear Carol,

My doctor put me on 200 mg too once a day. I have been on it since October

of last year but I take mine at night. My doctor had me take 100 mg for first

couple of weeks and then increase to 200 mg as that is what she prescribed but

it made me so loopy I decided to only take the 100 mg because I was coming

home from work and eating supper and taking Neurontin and not able to much of

anything except go straight to bed. I couldn't even talk right and my kids

would say " Mom you need to go to bed. " My speech was slurred and I couldn't

even

walk to bed without the assistance of my husband. Basically, I couldn't

function and I had to have some control. So I decreased my dosage to 100 mg and

told my RA on my next visit.

I also take Clonazepam 10 mg before I go to bed to help me sleep due to the

prednisone I take during the day.

I will say with the 100 mg Neurontin, It took a little while for me not feel

loopy on that amount but now I don't even know that I have taken it except

that I can sleep without much pain.

I have the same problem. My favorite way to sleep is on my side, yet

my hip hurts now when I do. I can't sleep on my back because I can't

straighten my legs out.

Have you tried placing a bolster pillow (tube-shaped) under your

knees to lift them while lying on your back?

Hi, Sierra,

I got some lidocaine patches that you peel off and stick on wherever

you hurt. It really helped me! It is prescription and doc wrote me a

prescription.

My pain is hips and shoulders and I also had to teach myself to sleep

on my back. My husband makes fun of all my pillows but I keep a king

size pillow to put between my legs if I do end up on my side (for my

hips) and a regular sized pillow for under my knees if I'm on my back

helps with back pain).

Also if you have problems with snoring. My husband is the king of

snoring and I read about the new over the counter spray (it is

sprayed in the mouth onto the back of the throat) were made of herbs

and worked. I was skeptical, but anything was worth trying. I

finally got my husband to try it and it did work! He still snores

sometimes but it is much quieter and very much less often. Ronny :)

Yes I have tried that and when my knees were propped up, my bad leg

got a charlie horse. Also, I seem to automatically turn to my side in

my sleep. If I can go to sleep on my left side, I am Ok. It's my

right hip, knee and ankle that bother me. I also have a deviated

septum (nose), so some nights My left nostril is blocked and I have

to turn onto my right side in order to breathe. Funny but once I get

to sleep, any pain that I had prior to sleep doesn't wake me. I am

grateful for that. There are so many people on this site and others,

who have pain waking them at night or keeping them awake. I also wake

up pain free in the morning. Grateful for that also.

I too have trouble sleeping- getting in a comfortable position. I tried a

down mattress- too soft - pillows under knees- between knees- bunches of pillows

under my head, etc. BUT the best was when I purchased a 3 " " magic foam "

mattress topper. It is one of those spongy things that the contour pillows are

made out of. When you go to bed, the heat of your body settles you in to

comfort the body. It really helps.

My husband and I (both sufferers) have never slept better since we

got our water bed.It is always warm and comfortable. Not everyone's

choice but it is magic for us!

Oh, wow, I used to have a waterbed, and you're right--they are

wonderfully warm and comfy! We got rid of it in the latter months of

my pregnancy (14 years ago). I'm definitely keeping that in mind as a

possibility for our next bed. Thanks!

i loved my water bed, too, but i out lived it!! when it had to be replaced, i knew i was on the verge of selling my place and relocating, and didn't feel like having to move a water bed... so i got a beautiful pillow top Beauty rest and it too, is great. it's not to firm, nor too soft. but i still have to have a lot of pillows to keep my upper end elevated <G>.. just wish my internal clock would let me sleep over 5 hours! no matter what time i go to bed, in at least 5 hrs i wake up. habits are reaLLY HARD TO BREAK! i take care of the shoulders by exercising them.. gentle stretching, and placing pillows in strategic places. nothing is perfect, but it helps.love.. granny lee
