My son is 15 and we are also dealing with a lot of anger, as well as

rudeness, and physical outbursts that at times have been very

scarey. No question the ocd is the main factor, but also find it

increased with medication (celexa), especially higher dose, and with

each increase. Not to mention teenage shots of testosterone coursing

through... Our son has always had low frustration tolerance and high

level of intensity, but no question the anger/rage went to a whole

other level since the ocd kicked in. We tried changing medication,

looking for something more effective, as well as to see if the rage

would settle down. One week on prozac and our son was depressed and

suicidal, but not ragey!, and the ocd went down some. Back on celexa

and notice rage with each increase again, but it does help the ocd

some and minimal side effects. Now he is bad thought ocd 85% of his

day... Waiting for drugs to lower the intensity of ocd to resume

CBT...

Before we went the medication route we tried inositol, based on the

doses reccomended in the study in Israel. My son seemed to improve,

but as we went to higher doses he got very severe and I could not be

sure whether it was the inositol or just the intensity of the ocd

increasing/waxing, so felt uncomfortable continuing without

supervision. Now think the full expression of the disorder was

kicking in and needed to be medicated.

Currently we have just consulted a ND who has recommended urine

testing that will show how neurotransmitters are metabolized in the

body. Apparently from this they can determine what supplements at

what doses would be effective to balance the brain chemistry. Sounds

too good to be true I know....but at this point we are willing to try

almost anything. The website is - www.neurogistics.com(US based). If

you are not using medication you can do all the testing and follow up

through their centre, otherwise you must go through a trained

practioner who they can recommend. Will post as to success of this

venture, takes several weeks for results which come from Germany -

where they seem to be much more progressive with integrative

medicine....

Hi Barb, do keep us updated on that testing and thanks for sharing

the info. I'll have to read about it!

My son did fine on Celexa, just tiredness as a side effect. Now, his

personality normally shows no anger, just a patient, nice person.

When OCD gets bad for a while, a bit of a temper shows (frustration,

etc.).

Lately the temper (fed-up-ness) is showing. -- LOL, (18, my

OCDer) just walked in and I hid what I'd typed. He told me he's

sorry for earlier, when he vented to me I guess, his temper showing!

It's odd to me when he shouts or shows any temper, he's just not that

type person.
