What impressed me was the special effects of the space flight scenes. Supposedly they are quite dated and primitive, but I found them quite elegant. Yes they are simple, but that's space flight as we have it today. The combination of the Waltzes really made the effects though. I don't think they could have done nearly as well with CGI.
