Hello and Bless you all!

I hope y'all don't mind answering more rookie questions! I really am trying to

search the files/old posts to find answers before asking what may have been

asked before.

I completed my first brew and then put my scoby mother (small cut section of one

given to me) and the new baby (that covered the top of my 4 qt. bowl) still

attached to each other in a deep dish pie plate with about a cup of KT in there

with it. I put a cloth and rubberband over it just like when brewing in the

bowl. I let it set there a couple of days while I was waiting on answers to my

first few questions.

After getting an answer to some of them and figuring it had turned out okay the

first time, I proceeded to make the next brew. When I took out the scoby(s) I

realized I had stored them with the dark stringy side up and the lighter smooth

side down. After a few days it had already made a new thin covering over the

top of the bottom (I hope someone can follow this!).

So, when I put the scoby mother and baby and now extra baby in the bowl - one

side floats and the other side sinks almost to the bottom of the bowl. After

just one day there is already a film forming on teh surface of the liquid to

make a new scoby but it won't be attached to the other one(s).

Is this okay or should I take it out and do some sort of surgery?!

Now that I enclosed it with skins on both sides, will it be able to " breathe " ?

Will it grow a dark stringy bottom again?

I know I'll come to " know " the kombucha one day and this will all be second

nature and I'll chuckle when I read other newbie questions.

Thanks for your patience while I learn!

Angie
