Guest guest
Hi LIsa: Sorry to hear about your pain. Are you on DMARDs yet? If you are, you should be feeling better soon. I find that the length of flares can vary. It sounds as though you aren't stabilized yet and that may take a while if you are still adjusting meds. Do take pain medication! If it helps you, don't feel as though you shouldn't. I know that I sometimes feel as though I can just "tough it out." But for awhile there, I was taking 2 Darvocet a day and even then that just took the edge off for me. I had a friend tell me that you can't get addicted to painkillers if you are using them to actually kill pain. Sometimes the swelling takes a long time to go down. I just had a flare in my hands for a couple of days, and couldn't put my wedding ring on my left hand this morning either. But I find that when the pain goes away, usually the swelling comes down soon after. Good luck to you. gloria
Guest guest
Thanks for all the kind messages.. I feel Im past that horrific pain stage/flare up and into a little healing.. I had to help farrier hold my mini horses today while he trimmed their hooves , i was afraid of overdoing so Im stiff anf sore but no more flaming pain like the past few days were.. Dr. had me take tests (factor, sed and ana) and I go back next weds. She gave me some percocet. I was a little taken aback by this , thinking only people in real severe pain took percoset..took my hubby a while to make me realize I qualified. I have few questions I cant find answers to anywhere..I realize they are subjective... How long does this swelling last(the vienna sausage look is not good on me!) how long does a flare up ususally last? and how severe is it before they line you up for rehab therapy and bracework? I hope Im imaginging this but I feel Ive lost some muscle tone already. typing skills have gone down the tubes too. Im a spinner and weaver and home school my special needs dd,, and am anxious to get back to cooking and cleaning..yep I am! I miss wearing my wedding ring too. Thanks yall
Guest guest
-, When I have had a flare I take large doses of Prednisone, up to 50 mg daily for three days or so until the flare starts to calm then I start tapering off. I have been taking Oxycodone (Oxycotin) for months. I went from 6 to 8 daily for pain to 2 on occasion now. If you are in pain there is no reason to suffer. Also I haven't had a flare since I started on Enbrel, Thank God. Best Wishes, Jay -- In Rheumatoid Arthritis , " lisa " <ealasaid89119@y...> wrote: > Thanks for all the kind messages.. Guest guest
Hi Jay: Are you still on that Oxy stuff??..I am TRYING to taper off of Norco/hydrocodone and it is very hard for me to do...Please be careful with pain pills..I know that I use them at times when maybe I should just be taking a Tylenol or some OTC stuff..esp. for those " flares " ..: ( Good to hear Enbrel is working for you...that will be my next step once MTX stops doing its thang.. Take care.. Lindy > > Thanks for all the kind messages.. Guest guest
Hi Lem, Yep, still taking the Oxycodone. I was taking so much Prednisone for a while I couldn't take any NSAIDs or I could have had severe stomach problems. I only take them when neccesary, usually once a day after my feet start complaining because I've abused them from walking on them to much!!. If I'm not walking much I don't need any thank God. Take care, Jay > > > Thanks for all the kind messages..
