Guest guest
Hi Don,and welcome to the group. I am 40 years old,and I am on disability,(SSA). I live in Oklahoma, and it went through on the first go around, it did take a year to the date. I have RA,OP, lupus, and some other ailments. And I am glad that I am getting it, because there is no way I can work. You can call them, and they send the paperwork to you, or you can apply online now. I wish you well, and some pain free days, take care Tawny > Hello, I'm 54 years old and was diagnosed with RA at 17. Have had 7 hip and knee > replacements and left hip is close to being done again. Guest guest
Tawny, Thanks for responding. Do you have to be out of work before you apply? Are you without health insurance for up to 2 years after you apply or after you are accepted. It all seems to be such a maze to go through the disability prosess. They seem to want to make it as diifficult as possible. Thanks, Don
Guest guest
Hi, I am in the process of trying to get disability. Waiting for a determination. I am wondering if any of you on disability are able to get your drugs paid for. Particularly the spendy ones like Enbrel. Thanks. Janet > > Hello, I'm 54 years old and was diagnosed with RA at 17. Guest guest
Hi Janet,....I am on disability, and I don't get medicare for two years, which is really tough. We also lost our health insurance, and so there are programs out there in different circumstances. I am on the Humira right now, which is quite costly. I receive patient assistance through Abbott company, which makes Humira. There are a lot of programs, if you would like to get in touch with me let me know, or tell me what specific med you are wanting, and I will help you, Tawny > > > Hello, I'm 54 years old and was diagnosed with RA at 17. Guest guest
Don,....When I applied I wasn't working, and then I tried to work. It lasted about a month, but they still went with when I first applied. Some people work part time, and still get it because they can't work full-time. I have to wait two years, after being accepted, which really bites. Yes, I think they do make it difficult, especially when it comes to RA. Just hang in there, and stay stong, Tawny > Tawny, Thanks for responding. Guest guest
Marcia, Hip replacements usually last 15 to 20 years but I'm at 29 years with my left hip. My right hip was done the first time in 1974 and my left hip in 1975. I still have my left hip from 1975 but my right hip has been done 3 times in 30 years. I fell down a flight of stairs and broke my right hip in 2000 so I guess you could say that doesn't really count. I'm pretty active so my doctors don't know why it lasted so long but it is ready to be done again. I'm still working everyday with no problems so it is tough for me to think about going in for another hip replacement. I guess xrays show that it should be done but I'm not ready. When it is time for a new hip you will know it but don't think about that. Take care of yourself, I had to make a lifestyle change and glad I did. Lost some weight and started eating right and was amazed after awhile how much it helped. I couldn't go back to what I used to eat, It doesn't appeal to me anymore. All the best... Guest guest
Hi Jimmy, Sorry you need a support group like this, but glad you found this one! Never give up...never surrender! Hugs, Jacy ~Forgive us this day our daily fallacy, and forgive my theology as I forgive the theology of others. -----Original Message-----From: jimmy72_3 [mailto:jimmy72_3@...]Sent: Thursday, May 27, 2004 18:51Rheumatoid Arthritis Subject: new memberHi, I'm a new group member, but by reading some of the articles i can relate with alot of them. It's hard for people to understand how hard it is dealing with R.A. I've had it since i was 8, well it's been well over 20 years. It's a lot worse now but i still try to do as much as possible, my motivation is to never give up and just keep moving.
