Guest guest
I actually like blizzards. I like to go out for a walk in these and pretend that I am the only one left alive in the world. Once when I was in college, the whole campus got snowed in so that the civil service workers could not make it to the kitchen to make the residents breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The students who worked in the cafeterias broke out the hamburgers and fries, cooked them up, and that's what we ate for three straight meals. Going out around campus during this time was neat because there is a lot of open space between buildings without streets. So, with all the other college kids snug in your dorms, you could go out and walk in the snow and pretend the world ended. As much as the snow might be an inconvenience for you, try to enjoy it. You might find that it's fun. Tom Administrator Hello All, I heard all over this country in the UK we gonna have snow blizzards. I'm not very happy about that it might happen tonight, I hope its not gonna be bad as it sounds, because then I will not be home on my own then with schools close, then i be stuck with my sisters and brother at home and then i cannot have the computer to myself and the TV i normally do lol But it might not happen that bad yet who knows it might be less in Leicester side and more in the other cities. Fingers cross lets hope schools are open tomorrow so I can have peace and quiet at home and enjoy my film i was planning to watch like I do on my days off. I can have the sky thing then as i don't have cable in my bedroom. I heard snow could be at least 6 inches which is bad. Anyway that is all 4 now and my update. Guest guest
I very much like heavy snowfall, for much the same reasons it appears. Traffic disappears and you have all the outdoors almost to yourself. I even like rain for much the same reason. If Leif Ekblad is reading this- here's a weird thought related perhaps to the Neanderthal Hypothesis...(That the huge cultural explosion approx 50k yr ago was due to hybridization of genes between Homo sapiens sapiens and Homo neanderthalis, but leaving certain incompatibilities in the genome such as perhaps tendencies toward ASDs.) Perhaps the best time for hunting game in cold climates is during snowfall since it tends to muffle sounds and perhaps smells as well? ...and in the late Fall too since the animals have the most meat on them around then? I grew up in Alaska, and I can recall at times being positively giddy with happiness at the first snowfall of the winter season....running and leaping about and generally playing in the snow. In my mind, how I partly rationalized the feeling consciously, was that the snowfall meant the end of the five month mosquito season! Perhaps...well another just-so hypothesis... first snowfall means you'd better make sure you have enough food stored up before the real winter sets in! ...About the word "blizzard"- In my mind that is generally associated with heavy snow to the point of seriously obstructing vision. I seem to recall one time a radio announcement where the expected visibility was expected to get down to only ten feet. Heph environmental1st2003 <no_reply > wrote: I actually like blizzards. Guest guest
Yeah, it white and glistening - sparkley and the sound is different too. I love snow in the night, orange glow of streetlights, starkness of bare trees :-) Mmmmmmmmmm sensory in a good way - just a shame about the cold part :-) Most of the snow is forcast for South of England and Wales. > > I actually like blizzards. Guest guest
Oh gosh, I remember being in blizzard like conditions in this country once, my son was in a pushchair (with protective covering) and I was trying to push it in such conditions, in the end I decided that I wasn't going to be able to get where I was meant to be going and turned back - but surely brownie points for trying - or should that be stupidity points :-) > > > > I very much like heavy snowfall, for much the same reasons it appears. Guest guest
Well I've been informed by the school bus this morning that if it starts to snow they're going to start transporting the children back home.
