Guest guest
Yep! I got the 2 gallon jar, the very same one you mentioned! Thanks for the peace of mind! As for the blueberry kombucha, I did the straw-taste test. It didn't taste like beer yet but I felt it could get there if I didn't change the contents. So, I ended up making 6 cups of light green tea sweetened. Cooled it then poured it in the washed & rinsed 2 gallon glass jar. When the tes was room temp, I strained the blueberry kombucha so I can trap the yeast particles in the strainer lined with paper towel (I recommend using large unbleached coffee filters, but didn't have any on hand), poured it with the new green tea. I was fortunate to get another great SCOBY from a guy who does this for years. I washed the food scissors and scrubbed with green brillo to make sure no old, unseen food particles are on the blades. Cleaned the scissors one more time, then used it to cut the SCOBY in half. Since I didn't have food handling disposable gloves, I turned a ziploc baggy inside-out and made-do with it like a mitt to grab the SCOBY while I snip-snip it in half. I poured the bottle of GTs into the KT starter bag, then poured out half the starter liquid into the new blueberry kombucha jar and dropped in a half SCOBY. Used a square-cut piece of muslin and capped the jar with a rubberband. Let's see how it turns out in 8-9 days! I hope the way I handled the batch was good enough to make a delicious batch of blueberry kombucha!
