Guest guest
Hello, I have had a training request from a 65 year old man diagnosed with Essential Tremor. He is on Propranolol for the tremors and has had 2 probes implanted into his thalmus which are attached to batteries and cause electrical stimualation to help calm the tremors. He can turn the probes on and off as needed. My question is whether anyone as worked with clients with Essential Tremor? Is Neurofeedback effective and/or reccomended for this kind of condition? What protocols and placements have you found to be successful? Thanks for your input. Joan vonNiessen RN BTSN Shuswap Biofeedback

Guest guest
Joan,I can only repeat that, except for clients of a common type (e.g. ADHD) with whom I have noted a particular pattern (those who work with RAD or Autistic Spectrum often develop these recipes as well), I always start with assessment. We seem to be able to address thalamic issues training in the sensorimotor cortex with ADHD, but I don't have experience with essential tremors. If they are related to low levels of dopamine, as with Parkinsons, then I would expect you might see benefits from training SMR if you don't want to see the whole picture before deciding what to do.
