Guest guest
There have been many requests/questions regarding scientific publication in addition to what Dr. G has already published. Contact has already been made with a well respected firm to do an independent 'Chart Review'. The firm completed a preliminary sample of Dr. G's caseload which revealed that the case charts do in fact contain a tremendous volume of data that once reviewed, organized, and tabulated will present some exceptionally compelling and publishable data. The company is well know in the medical community and can handle the process from initial analysis, to database development through document preparation. This will include assistance in submission and publication. The nature of this review will also represent an independent , third-party analysis which will give this whole process more credibility. Several of our parents have the knowledge to do some of the work in this area but the logistics of accomplishing that are not practical. Another option would be for this to be handled in-house within Dr. Goldberg's practice but that would require a reduction of case load and I don't think that anyone wants to lengthen the lead time for Dr.G. Another critical issue is that neither of those options will create an INDEPENDENT REVIEW. As this information will be anecdotal, a third-party, independent review will help provide even that much more credibility. So it really comes down to hiring a consulting firm to do this for us. The cost for the entire chart review, beginning to end, is about $150,000 with $17,500 needed to get started. We need to raise this money IMMEDIATELY!!!! Who is willing to do local fundraisers in your area? One of the easiest fund raisers is to contact your local Mcs, Burger King, etc. There is usually a coordinator for the Mac Charities with whom you have to speak. You can be put on the schedule for a fundraiser which consists of showing up with 4-5 other adults at your assigned time and stand at the entrances telling everyone who comes in to mention /autism when they pay their bill. You will get a percentage of the total receipts for the time that you are there. I would pick a pay day Saturday. Another simple fundraiser is the Chevy's Restaurant chain fundraiser as posted by another member of the BOD, Marcia Hinds. Here is the texts of that post: **************************************************************************** At Chevy's restaurants you can designate a certain night as night. It has to be a Monday or a Tuesday. They will give 15% of profits to our organization for each person who brings in a flyer. I asked the manager if there is anyway we could put the flyer on line for people across the country to download and go to Chevy's near them. She said she would love to help us do that. **************************************************************************** *** I am sure there are many chains in each and every one's area that will participate in this. Perhaps we can organize a Nation-Wide chain restaurant ' Day' The news media would flock at the novelty. Any volunteers to get this one going???? Also, in the immediate future, the Coalition will be holding an On-line Art auction to liquidate many pieces of art donated to our organization. It is critical that everybody start participating in the effort to move this organization forward. Standing on the sidelines criticizing accomplishes nothing toward spreading the word and helping make more treatment available. Any other ideas? Please forward them to me. Not deciding is a choice just as taking NO action is a choice to NOT DO ANYTHING. Let's make 2002 the year we 'CHANGE THE WORLD' and help save our children. * Marc Share President & Executive Director Research Institute and Parents Coalition 'Working To Give Our Children A Future'
