When will my Kombucha be done?

How can I tell? Today's the 8th day. Tomorrow (Saturday) it will be the 9th.

I've put it on top of our electric hot water heater (next to the hot pipe) and

it seems the temperature in there is always at least 70, if not more like 75. I

started it with black tea and 1 1/2 cups of sugar. I used a small (1 " X2 " X1/2 " )

scoby that I got from eBay and to that I added an entire bottle of Organic Raw

Kombucha from the coop. It took 3-4 days for the mother to grow, and now the

scoby is like 1/4 " thick or so, more or less. But, I think the tea is still

slightly sweet.

Is there any better way of testing it or should I just be patient and wait

hoping that it will turn out soon. How many days do you think it will take?
