Guest guest
Haven't been here in quite a while. I need help with something that's NEVER happened before! Cleaned out both my 21/2 gallon cont. brew kegs, and made a fresh batch of tea. I've been drinking it from spigot...noticed quite a few fruit flies flying around which I always get this time of year. Lifted off the top and some flew out! This morning I looked in, and saw worms on top of the scoby!!!!!! I am totaly " grossed out! " Guess all has to be thrown out? Have no idea how they got in...I want to throw up...lol! Anyone ever have this happen? Thank you.
Guest guest
Probably some larvae from a fruit fly. One probably got in and laid eggs in your brew. Then some of them matured into the fruit flies and have been trapped under the lid. I'd throw it out and maybe see if you can band a piece of muslin over the top of the keg to keep it more impenetrable. All it takes is one tiny space for an insect to get in. I'm constantly shooing fruit flies. Seems there are so many this year. They line up over the top of the muslin. I am sewing some muslin drawstring bags to put the whole jar in (still with muslin and band over the top) because I keep thinking they are going to lay eggs on the muslin cover.
