le,

the best warmup is similar to the action you will be doing but slower.

try doing a warm-up from a TB tape but even slow it down further

practically like slow motion

and don't try any stretching type moves till your muscle feel really loose

and just forget about speed completely even when warmed up

use a chair for all balance moves till your body strengthens

Barb,

This is what I do for a warm up, and when I'm just hanging out around

the house. My husband, who keeps getting Tae-bo and Tai Chi confused,

just calls it " Tae-bo Chi " . It sounds like some kind of Korean dish,

le, can you remind me what tapes you have and do regularly?

For

stretching, I would do the stretching preceeding the intructional

tape

(studio or live) before you start taebo. I would also recommend that

you slow down the shoulder, arm and neck stretches on those tapes.

For example, when does multiple shoulder roles, I would just do

one or two SLOWLY. He often stretches faster than I think is safe.

My bigger concern is what move caused this problem in your

shoulder/back area. The moves that come to mind are punches (jabs,

crosses, hooks, undercuts) and especially any punching move requiring

you to twist your body. If you have either of the instructional

tapes, I recommend that once your shoulder/back recovers, you go back

and do those tapes to make sure your punching correctly. It sounds

tedious, I know. But, after almost 1 year of taebo (mostly advanced

tapes), I am still learning to improve my punching form from the

instructional tapes, as well as from 's book (and from the

classes I've going to). Punches are trickier than they look and if

you do them incorrectly, you can hurt yourself.

Longer Warm-Up Needed

> I need to warm up

> before starting Taebo - any suggestions?

le,

If you have the new Live instructional....that has a great warm-up. I've

used it when I'm feeling tight or like I need a really good long

stretch.....it really helps. Otherwise, just hold the stretches that

does for a longer period of time. Put the tape on pause and continue to

stretch. Loosen up your muscles with a little aerobic activity

first...throw a few punches, jump around a little bit...just to get your

muscles warm and then go into the stretch. That will really help you get

the most from the stretches. Also, I don't remember which tapes you have,

but if you have a few different tapes....cue some of the ones your not using

up to the stretching part and just do 1 or 2 of those stretches in addition

to the tape you're doing!

Hope you're feeling better soon! And try to figure out what it was that

caused your pain, so you can modify the move and not hurt yourself again!

First, thanks everyone for your well wishes, for your advice, and for

your ideas! I am just so glad it didn't get as bad as when I had it

on the other side. I can still do Taebo since we caught it early on

so that is one good thing. I just ordered the new four pack so I am

ready for the new instructional - hopefully it will arrive before the

stated 3-4 weeks. I will review the old instructional too. I feel

like I am doing the moves right - I know I am feeling the moves more

then ever in my body during and afterwards.

I do the Advance Live #4, #6 and either #1 or #2 Monday, Wednesday,

and Friday. On Tuesday and Thursday, I do the Basic #4 or #3 (rarely

#5 and #1). Last week I added a 10 minute Austin weight

training tape workout after the Basic workouts. I bought her new 40

minute weight training tape and I was going to do it for the first

time tonight. I will wait on that one.

April 19th will be my 14 month anniversary and my first back/shoulder

blade injury was February 16th - weird that I was doing Taebo for a

year and then boom . . . I'm doing something wrong.

Thanks again. You all are wonderful! le

le,

When you get the new 4-pack, I would suggest doing the stretching

from the new Instructional before you start a workout. That,

combined with the warm-up from the workout, should work out pretty

well.

You are right; it probably isn't anything wrong with your punching form

if this is the first (or second) time you injured your shoulder blade.

My second guess is the weight lifting, especially since you just started

the new tapes. Now that I think about it, I have hurt my shoulder blade

when I have tried to lift weights that were too heavy for me. I fixed

it by just not lifting weights for a few days and going down a few

pounds on the offending move (I think it was bench presses for me).
