Guest guest
Don, I would love to help you out with the Elderberries. If you are anywhere in Western NC perhaps that can be arranged. Approximately 2 years ago, I moved from San Diego to this remote mountain retreat where there is no mail delivery, no city water, no natural gas, and we no longer have transportation. I personally have not been off this mountain since last October. We do have electric, and I now have high speed internet, but other than that its like living back in the days LOL Actually I love it. manages to get grocery shopping via his daughter at least once a month and we grow some of our food. The berries are not yet ripe this year. We froze what we picked last year and that is what we are using at the moment. In another week or two they should be ripe enuf to pick. We are up about 4500' so our growing season runs a bit later than the rest of the world. If you want to make the trip I can get you the directions- it aint easy to find us, roads are unmarked and mostly unpaved after you leave the main road, once you get on the right road there's not much of any way to make a mistake unless you completely miss our driveway. I can give you good directions and even a map. What specifically did you want to know about the Elderberry? Its one of the oldest known medicines on the planet. The Indians said IF you knew how to use it the Elder tree is the only medicine you would ever need. Berries, leaves, bark, roots, flowers all can be used, but lots of that knowledge has since been lost. Todays knowledge is mostly about the berries and flowers. I've made several batches of ElderSyrup and Elder tincture, both of which seem to be very effective. One dose at the first sign of cold or flu and its GONE! So the natural progression for us is to do Elderberry in KT or Sam-Bucha lol and for of course would be the Elderberry wine. If you are unable to come and collect your berries, perhaps you can find some closer to home. The Elder tree grows wild almost anywhere there is a creek or stream or even a river. Or you can get the dried berries from most anyplace that sells herbs online. I recommend Mountain Rose Herbs for quality and pricing. Guest guest
I would be interested in what proportions you use the berries and sugar to make the syrup. Guest guest
Thanks for the recipe, Zoe! Was wondering if you could give me an approximate ratio of vodka to elderberry syrup in order to preserve it without refrigeration. Thanks, Polly zoew wrote: > > _*Elderberry Syrup*_ > Makes 1 quart (1l) > > My Notes: > > Once this is done I add an amount of vodka for preservation. > Then it needs no refrigeration. >

Guest guest
Hi Polly, I make this sirup yearly to use if we have a cold but since we don't have colds that often I give it away a lot too, so I'll try the sam-bucha as soon as my production is at level with the demand I never put in alcohol, just pour the finished liquid in clean bottles and close with their metal cap, when cooling down it'll create a vacuum and then you can keep it out of the fridge groetjes, Vera in Belgium > > Thanks for the recipe, Zoe! Guest guest
I found numerous references to GSE. What is it? Tom Gibson > > Here is the Basic Recipe >

Guest guest
GSE = grapeseed extract (used in many home remedies, hygeine products, distillations etc to preserve, where vodka or alcohol-based preservatives cannot be used. . .it is said to be anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and other beneficial aspects. I use it diluted many ways, like mouthwash, nasal lavage, for topical wounds on myself and pets, etc.) Norma
