This was a lot more fun than the treadmill and he enjoyed the workout. He wasn't a distraction, and he's a huge (not fat) Golden, so he had no problem keeping up with me. It's also a time saver and I followed it up with another 20 minutes of moderate pace (a fast walk for me and a slight trot for him) which is what he's been doing with me in the afternoons prior to this. I wish I had the zeal to exercise like he does. His only downside is that it affords him no "sniff time".

Yeah, I've tried this with my labrador (Romeo), and my 10 is about a 7 for him. What I did with him is teach him that "sniff" time comes AFTER the run, not during. Of course, I do make sure he's done his business first so there's no serious chain yanking! Since I've been doing BFL, he's lost 2 lbs! (he's not missing them, according to the vet).

Me: LOL!!!!!! Last week I took my heeler with me to do some cross country cardio......she pooped out and went home on the last 5 mns..... the little monster!! I think she thought I was nutz..... I had been running thru the woods (on our paths) and thru the fields, and she couldnt figure out if I were lost or not!! (like, MOM home is THATAWAY!!) I guess she finally thought she'd be the smarter one, and pack it up and go home!! *giggle*

Next weekend is "fashion show" weekend where I go up to the attic, pull out the old clothes, and see what can be brought into the current wardrobe. I also take the big pants from the current wardrobe and give them the wriggle test. If I can wriggle out of 'em, they're outta here!

Me: WOOHOO!! keep up the good work!! :)

I was just talking to my hubby yesterday about this. I want to start jogging outside when the weather starts to get nice. We have dogs and I was just musing with him on how nice it would be IF they would only just jog with me. It would give them excellent exercise and would pose as a safety precaution for me. We like to go camping every weekend during the summer and I've been trying to figure out how to keep up with my workouts, so in unfamiliar areas, the dogs would server as my safety shield.

Unfortunately, my fast walk is too fast for them. They are huge, lazy, Great Pyrenees and walking fast is about as fast as they will go (for about 5 minutes), then it's slow right down and enjoy the world. I'm just learning to run and I expend more energy pulling my 150 lb dog just to keep up with me and it just isn't worth it! Gets frustrating. So it's only leisurely walks for them.

I think it's terrific that you two can WO together :) and congrats on your success so far!

My dog did HIIT aerobics with me!Weather was finally good enough for me (above 45 degrees) that I was able to do my HIIT aerobics outside yesterday, and figuring I'd kill 2 birds with one stone, I also took the dog for his daily walk. When I started running at a 6, he got excited and wanted to go for a 10, so I also got a little bicep workout in holding him back. He got the idea pretty quick and my run is only his trot.Once I got to 9 the first time, he didn't want to fall back to 6, but he did. When I got to 9 the 4th time, he didn't seem to look too forward to move to a 10 initially, but when he saw I was going all out, he decided to as well, which had me chasing him and I definitely hit a 10 doing that. This was a lot more fun than the treadmill and he enjoyed the workout. He wasn't a distraction, and he's a huge (not fat) Golden, so he had no problem keeping up with me. Yes, we took a 2-3 minute warm-up/stretching walk and got business

taken care of then. Otherwise, Those kind of yanks will stop you

dead in your tracks. I hope to be able to some day make my dog's 10

my own 10!

Love those great Pyranees. Beautiful dogs. Maybe a milkbone tied to

a string on the end of a long stick might do the trick<g>. At least

they might be able to do 20 minutes of low to medium intensity

aerobics (if you do that) with you as a brisk walk. A nice walk

always does both dog and owner good!

I've been running with my yellow labrador at 6:00 a.m every other day.

I usually turn him lose from his leash because there aren't too many

people out and about that early, and we run in large open areas away

from what little traffic there is. This dog pushes me! He'll be

slightly ahead of me (always has to be in the lead), then I'll run my

butt off and try to catch up to him, a guaranteed 10 every time!! Then

it's back to a jog, then a sprint, etc. He makes a great running

partner, however, he will pay Tuesday morning. He stole a whole bag of

Oreos off the counter today and ate every one of them. Just for the

record, they were my kid's oreos, not mine! Ha, Ha!
