Guest guest
If I listened to my doctor I'd have had my gallbladder cut out and my pancreas " split and scraped " I would have had a pacemaker type machine installed under my stomach muscle. And I'd be on meds that could potentially cause permanent tics. My doctor didn't agree with Kombucha and guess what... it helps my stomach digest and takes all the reflux away. No need for a stomach machine and no need for the meds for gastroparesis. I haven't had any more stone attacks since I started drinking it. Dr says I need to get my surgery taken care of NOW! Guest guest
Greetings, lsfolly. > Stuck here and having to go with allopathic guidance. By using the term " allopathy, " do you mean traditional " Western " medicine? (I am not familiar with allopaths; the only thing I can find definitively is that the term refers to " opposites " .) Regardless of who is providing you with health-related guidance, I would encourage you to listen to your heart, and your body. Also, it's certainly appropriate to seek another opinion! Regarding the acidity of your kombucha, I have a thought, not sure if it would make a difference, but maybe it's worth a test? Why not combine some very young kombucha ( " sweet " ) with mature kombucha to see if that form is less acidic? You would still get some of the benefits of mature kombucha, but probably would be less acidic, I'm thinking... (Course, it might still be too acidic, according to your allopath.) Maybe cutting the kombucha with water, or a non-acidic fruit juice (is there such a thing?) could help, too. When I Googled to find out more about interstitial cystitis, one page suggested eliminating various high-acid items from your diet, then reintroducing them one at a time to determine which, if any, affect your symptoms. That seems like it might be a good compromise, don't you think? You could just take a break from drinking kombucha to see if that helps relieve your symptoms... > Not sure how often I should add fresh tea to my SCOBY HOTEL(s). I'm sure you've read Margret's advice -- which I echo -- to only add kombucha to the hotel. If you decide to stop making kombucha for a while, just make sure there is enough liquid so your SCOBY(s) is covered... You don't have to give it a swimming pool! :-) Best of luck, Vicki in Orlando > > They are telling me that I have interstitial cystitis and the pH > strips they gave me tells me that my kombucha is too acidic for me > to drink. Guest guest
No fresh kombucha right now so maybe just fresh made tea with no sugar? Add every other week? Maybe a cup to a gallon jar that has about 6 SCOBY's? I am not finding too much alternate information about interstitial cystitis. All I know is the pain is morphine level and they do give morphine to some patients. Supposedly I can ease the pain with diet choices but the list I got at the DR's office and the list on the website the Dr's office sent me to don't even match each other! So for now diet is the only tool I have. Supposed to buy stuff like glucosamine chondroitin according to the doc but no $$ to do so. Fortunately I already have the slippery elm powder he recommended. I found one website that recommends aloe vera. They sell some special aloe of course but they say it is a special breed of aloe and don't say what that is. I have a bunch of aloe that I just transplanted into larger pots because I knew I would be needing it soon. (Strange huh?) So I am eating that also. Dr. also said that baking soda in water helps and it really does but I have to monitor the hypertension to see if I can do it. Interestingly I just read somewhere that aloe and cucumber are highly alkalizing to the body and I've been going cucumber crazy lately. Still the pain is phenomenal. The back can get very painful with this - just like with appendicitis. Who knew? > > > They are telling me that I have interstitial cystitis and the pH strips > > they gave me tells me that my kombucha is too acidic for me to drink. > > You have a choice to believe it or not to believe it, to take it on board, > or to scrap it. > > > Sheesh! Guest guest
Yeah, in this case I am not sure because the problem kept getting worse and I was doing kombucha daily - will not start again until pain is lessened. The only thing that tested green (good) on the pH strip was chicken soup. I thought only raw foods were alkalizing? > > > They are telling me that I have interstitial cystitis and the pH strips > > they gave me tells me that my kombucha is too acidic for me to drink. > > You have a choice to believe it or not to believe it, to take it on board, > or to scrap it. > > > Sheesh! Guest guest
Yes allopathy refers to the type of medical care that is supported by the insurance companies, Big Pharma, and the law - slash and burn medicine, chemical medicine. The suffering is so much that I dare have very little at this time. Don't dare try the kombucha for awhile. Yes I don't think there is any fruit juice or fruit that I can have - maybe banana. Even apples are bad for some reason but apple sauce is OK if it is homemade from organic. One site said white bread, another said no bread bleh! I think that it will just be chicken soup for quite awhile supplemented with cucumbers and aloe. Of course I have to cut the seeds out of the cucumber since appendicitis. The hospital nurse apologized for telling me no seeds but painful experience has taught me that she was correct. Don't know what the appendix has to do with seeds but I can't have kiwi, strawberry sesame - none of it unless I blend and strain or it is morphine level pain again. As chief cook and bottle washer this is going to be tough. My family likes spicy foods and this from scratch cooking traditional recipes that are not written with amounts means taste testing - no more! I have stopped making kombucha for more than a month and have several hotels going. I freshened with fresh brewed tea with sugar - just like I would to start kombucha - it has cooled down drastically and the yeast was not a problem - each hotel has a new SCOBY on top that is beautifully formed - not with the holes and extra babies I had before. Stopped because I had so much and was doing secondary brew in plastic with ginger. Been throwing all the plastic bottles out. (Almost been wondering if the KT from plastic caused this aggravation.) The kombucha helped me so much after the appendicitis along with home-made sauerkraut and now I can have neither. This is getting so complicated. Baking soda does provide surprising relief but my BP is going up so I can't have that either. Guest guest
If you add sweet tea, you are essentially making kombucha. Which is okay, I guess, it's just not considered a " hotel " anymore. Since you won't be drinking the kombucha it makes, it will eventually become very acidic, which will provide good starter should you decide to make kombucha again " someday. " I'm quite sorry to hear of your pain and discomfort. :-( Hope that the baking soda, aloe, etc. continue to help, and that you find some other relief, as well. Good luck! > > > > > They are telling me that I have interstitial cystitis and the pH strips > > > they gave me tells me that my kombucha is too acidic for me to drink. > > > > You have a choice to believe it or not to believe it, to take it on board, > > or to scrap it. > > > > > Sheesh! Guest guest
Just found this online: Diet No scientific evidence links diet to IC/PBS, but many doctors and patients find that alcohol, tomatoes, spices, chocolate, caffeinated and citrus beverages, and high-acid foods may contribute to bladder irritation and inflammation. Some people also note that their symptoms worsen after eating or drinking products containing artificial sweeteners. Eliminating various items from the diet and reintroducing them one at a time may determine which, if any, affect a person's symptoms. However, maintaining a varied, well-balanced diet is important. > > They are telling me that I have interstitial cystitis and the pH strips they gave me tells me that my kombucha is too acidic for me to drink. I thought that lemons and ACV (with the mother) had an alkalizing effect so good for my problem but of course the allopath has never heard of that. > > Meanwhile I have a gazillion SCOBY'S here in Glendale AZ if you know anyone interested. Guest guest
Hi, You might want to try to find a group about Interstitial cystitis online. It often happens that those who have gone through the experience themselves have a lot of helpful information to share. Of course everyone is unique and no one thing works for everyone but at least it is a place to start. Feel better soon.... Guest guest
There is a book called " Perscription for Healing " written by a few (alopathic) MD's see if it has your interstitial cystitis listed - maybe it has a reference to Kombucha - I'd recommend staying away from " web md " as it is funded by pharma industry ________________________________ From: Margret Pegg <Minstrel@...> kombucha tea Sent: Sat, October 31, 2009 1:25:07 AM Subject: Re: Sheesh In message <hcgfng+pfru@ eGroups.com> you wrote: > They are telling me that I have interstitial cystitis and the pH strips > they gave me tells me that my kombucha is too acidic for me to drink. The best thing to add to your scoby hotel is the latest fresh brewed KT. Sweet tea would stimulate the yeasts too much. whereas KT, with less sugar, will give you a perfect bacteria-rich starter. I hope you persevere and reap the benefits of Kombucha, which you have been clearly experiencing. Happy weekend! Guest guest
No, I did not know there was one. On dial up, I refer to files rarely because it takes so long. I spent 20 years trying different formulas and came up with the one I make now. He does not have to use it any more, but I do sell it at farmers markets, craft shows and through the mail. Guest guest
It is a cream I make and sell. It is olive oil and shea butter base with essential oils and infused herbs. I can post more info here, or if the list likes we can take this privately. It is OT. Gayla Bob and Gayla Always Enough Ranch Acampo, CA Re: Sheesh > Would you mind telling me about this? Guest guest
Hi Gayle, I have psoriasis. Would you mind posting the recipe for the cream you made? - . > > My DH's dermatologist said the cream I made to help his psoriasis would not > work either. Ha!
