Re: question about cleaning out

Meg,

My daughter has had countless colonoscopies and EGD's. They have

always made her take a bottle of magnesium citrate for the cleanout,

and she has been scoped at numerous hospitals across the country

because of her rare disease. All the protocalls for cleanout have

basically been the same. She is also on daily miralax, but I don't

think 2x daily is enough to clean anyone out for a scope. If he is

not cleaned out good, then they can't see any problems. They can

still biopsy, but they will be taking them blind without being able

to see the colon. Go get a bottle at your local drugstore of

magnesium citrate (not the red one), he will start going. It is not

great, but not terrible, like a really sweet kind of Sprite. If he

has not gone much I would do something now, so he can finish up, and

get cleaned out in time. One time my son was scoped and he had been

throwing up a lot. We were afraid he could not drink the whole

bottle and keep it down. The local GI dr told me we could try to do

it with Miralax, 4xdaily, for 2 days, with clear liquids both days.

So I just don't know if 2x daily is enough for sure. Hope you get it

all done, and can put your mind to rest. Take care.

Meg - call the prescribing doctor. Do not go and buy anything OTC without their

permission.

macey is on 2x per day as a daily dose. Miralax depends primarily on good fluid

intake. He has to have the fluid in him for the drug to kick in.

Call the doctor if you are concerned.
