Guest guest
Hi my name is and I am single mom to aged 10. Andy was diagnosed in 2005 with having aspergers as well as anxiety, depression and adhd and scotopic sensitivity. I was wondering if any of you maybe have school aged children with aspies that are in a public school and how the schools rules and punishments are done towards an aspergers student. My son is not a violent person and doesn't normally initiate violence (I.e. Throw the first punch) unless he is antagonized or provoked into it, and then it still takes a while for this to happen. The other day my son was being antagonized on the playground and he requested several times for them to stop getting louder at each request but it continued and he picked up a shoe a student had dropped and pitched it toward the group. It just happened to hit another student and now my son had to serve in school suspension for hitting another student (the principal said it was the same as punching the student) there was nothing ever said about what punishment if any the other students received and I'm just wondering if I'm overreacting or is there something else I should do. It doesn't seem fair to me for him to have been provoked into what he did and him get punished but none of the other students. Any help or advice would be helpful and appreciated.
