Getting ready for TLC7

Starting in the middle of last year, we began a complete remake of the TLC Designs package to make it more powerful and easier to use.  The designs were released in the 4th quarter of 2011 and are available for download form the LearningCurveDesigns website for all who have purchased our designs in the past.

A bit later we began working on a complete redo of the  10-year-old TLC Assessment, which had worked its way through multiple updates to version 6.6.  Having gone through multiple versions of Excel, 6.6 had a number of minor bugs and limitations in it--though it was still a great tool for producing customized training plans quickly and inexpensively.

Version 7 (TLC7) has become a whole new product, rewritten from the ground up. 1. All pages have been redone to improve the graphics.  2. Each page has a Print button that automatically formats the page for those who prefer using paper versions. 

3. There is a new Synchrony page, which provides more information on coherence and adds phase information for all sites, all frequencies, all conditions.4. The Report page has added more ratios and changed formatting to improve the ability to read it by color.

5. An Options button on the data input page allows you to turn on or off pages in the display. 6. Each page includes buttons allowing you to perform or save an assessment (you can no longer save a file over the master).

7. There are also a few changes in the sites that are gathered.      Fp1 and Fp2 are no longer included, since it was nearly impossible to gather decent data there    O1 and O2 are added as optional sites.   

The Midline site has been changed from Fz and Oz to Cz and Oz.   

The Default Network (Fz and Pz) has been added as a standard midline site (making a total of 6).7. Each page has text on it explaining its views.8. All of this AND the size of the file is about 15% of what it was (400k compared with 2.5 MB).

I'll post comparisons of the 6.6 and TLC7 in the coming days, looking at each page.Today we'll look at the Maps page, one of the most useful in my opinion.  The 6.6 maps were created by me--hardly an Excel programmer--with the existing tools in Excel's graphing. They didn't look much like heads, and different versions of Excel had to be manually adjusted in order to get the colors to appear, and the colors weren't necessarily very intuitive, but the maps helped identify head injuries and frequency distribution around the head.

The new maps are much clearer and more intuitive, and they are consistent with what you would find in a QEEG. Smoothing algorithms get rid of the abrupt changes that were present in many 6.6 maps.  The two attached files show the same data in the two versions of the Maps.
