Guest guest
, thanks for your post. I spoke to a mom yesterday who has a young child with a heart condition. She told me about family voice and also the other program that is 300%....we may qualify for that....we were just over the 250% for one program....but the program excluded immune disorders....now that my husbands pay has been cut nearly $10,000, it may drop us low enough for both and I am being told that there are ways to get around that program that sets the 250%...in terms of the exclusion of immune disorders. In the meantime, I am traveling to Carson City in February to speak on the legislative floor with several other parents about all of this....I also want to address the serious problems with the education system here in the state. We may be making some headway there as I spoke to the GATE program here yesterday. They are with the school district and they said that, because Molly tested exceptionally gifted and talented when they administered a stanford binet #4 test over a year ago, the school district MUST write and IEP for her to accomodate her cognitive level just like they would write an IEP to accmodate a child that is delayed. They said she is being discriminated against for being G & T and I now have a district representative on my side that is going to go after the school district to make sure she gets what she needs. They said this has never happened before and it has left many people not knowing how to handle it....they said they have never had a student file for and IEP that was not delayed....never one that was ahead of the game....so it is a first for them. Perhaps it will be easier the next time it happens to someone else.
