I found my muscle strength fading far too rapidly for my happiness (I do not want to be a weakling)! LOL I figure that not only do I feel better, I will be burning more calories in the long run with muscle where there is nothing but air! So, I work out on a balance ball, with 10 pound free weights, ride my recumbent bike and use stretch bands. I am regaining strength and muscle, and just this week am starting to notice a difference in my lower abdomen (pannus area). The greatest benefit to this exercise is it is helping my severe back pain (which has REALLY become bad since the cold weather has set in). I am regaining some of my balance, too. I had become very unstable on my legs since before the GR-DS. My husband has never seen me work out so much and thought it was because I wanted to lose more weight (which I do) but I also explained to him that I am tired of hurting and tired of being weak. I seem to be doing pretty well, and have kept at it for a number of weeks now (not saying that I exercise every day). I do walk more in parking lots, etc., too, and even find myself taking stairs. I am actually finding that I LIKE the way I feel after I exercise -- more energetic and with muscles feeling better. Oh -- I am also stretching, especially for my hips and back (Prevention Magazine had some great back stretches this month). Oh, all of this equipment is in my livingroom in front of the TV. I put on a show I like and away I go (if there is nothing on TV, I pop a Disney video into the VCR). Hugs and blessings, Ann
Guest guest
I have started the work out again. I'm walking 1.5 miles per day since I went off the vac pump. And, even though my wound is not completely healed, I'm getting back in to water aerobics. I put on 23 pounds in a week (last Thursday - Thursday) and so that means I have 70 pounds to loose, now so I can get that magic 199 mark. I would NOT have lost the 120 pounds had I not exercised a lot -- water aerobics is the best exercise for us, in my opinion. Jim Workin out Okay, Post-Ops--be Honest--- Who is really working out? Guest guest
OK, OK, I'll admit it. I haven't worked out. Just a couple of times, but that doesn't count. I've lifted some weights here at the house, but I don't count that either. I even joined a gym and paid for it for a year!! I know if I start I will probably love it because so much of my padding is gone that I'll be able to move easier and the muscle definition will show sooner. Can anyone kick me in the a** here to get started? I've lost about 140 lbs and seem to be stopped at 20 months out. I'm l85 lbs and in a size 16 jeans. I'm honestly happy with my size. When I wake up in the mornings it's so easy to get out of bed now, I feel so skinny. That's when I notice it most, kind of weird. When I see my reflection in a mirror I can't believe it's me!! My mind thinks " who's that lady? " . I know that sounds so strange, and it is but it's true and I absolutely Love It!! I sure hope Dr. K knows how much he is admired and loved. I thank him and God everyday. Carol in Phoenix 327/185 3/27/2002 > Okay, Post-Ops--be Honest--- Who is really working out? > > What is working for you? Cardio bores me to tears. Guest guest
Jim, The most important thing is to find an exercise that you actually LIKE. Unless you really enjoy--or really tolerate--an exercise, you will not stick with it. For me, it was/is water aerobics. It's really an easy workout, and you do get a cardiovascular workout. When I started the class, I though, " This will be a freeking breeze. " The first couple of days (I went 5 days per week, two times per day) the workout was truly easy. Then the instructor (Vicki Blackburn who is a DS success story herself) started working us, and I mean WORKING us. It really didn't feel like exercise, and I was in the pool, which I've always loved. Well, 5 weeks later when I saw Dr. K. He examined me and started " kneading " my stomach. He said, " you have lost a LOT of fat cells--I mean a LOT!! " I told him I was in water aerobics. By doing the water aerobics, I had lost 6 inches from my middle in 5 weeks. The workout was a real workout, but being in the water it was so easy to do this " fun stuff " that was serious stuff. Again, find an exercise that you can enjoy doing. Jim

Guest guest
Oh, great. A public DARE. When will the double dog dare and triple dog dare raise their ugly head??? I think a " contest " can be fun. But, let's wait until 4 December. That will be the day after your anniversary and the day before mine. We can go until 4 June which will be the 18th month anniversary. Can you believe in a week we will be out a year!! Now of course, all our stuff has to be public -- since we've made this pact public ally. I know that 199 is not really realistic for me, but just a dream. So, I am shooting for about 220 or so. But--to take a pic of the scale at 199! What a dream. Of course, I could set the scale back 50 pounds, right? Guest guest
Hi Jim! I don't know if they have the equivalent of Curves for guys, but I was going there for a week trial after my hernia repair. I couldn't do any ab work at the time and I still got plenty of workout accomplished! Personally, I prefer walking to anything (in fact, after this post, I have to jump off the group and do my walkies) and I put in about 2 miles on the treadmill 5 nights a week. I also do arm exercises a couple of times a week. I hope you're able to find something you enjoy! Guest guest
Congrats on the great workout Kristy! But, rice and bok choy? Good grief, girl, you could have at least had some pork or something with it! Where was the protein? (Okay, I'm the last person to lecture someone about having high protein meals but when I eat chinese I almost always have sweet and sour pork.) In any case, I'm really proud of you for being so dedicated to your workout! I've been working hard on mine, as well. Without a personal trainer, it's not so easy, but I'm pushing myself as much as I can. In fact, when I'm done reading and posting today, I'm jumping on the treadmill. Have you noticed a difference in energy level? I've been told exercise is supposed to give you more energy and for me, it does for about the first hour afterwards but other than that, I haven't noticed a difference. I was never blessed with that incredible burst of energy so many people are blessed with after the surgery. Okay, enough about me! I meant for this to be a pat on the back for YOU! You're doing great! Hugs! Tracey > Hey all > > Im still working out..Cant beleive how great your weight is Ann!! Well done! You are way aheads of me!!
