Of course, there has been no separation within the small country of

Belgium.

However, the separatist movement in the north is very much alive and

has been for many decades now. When I lived in Brussels for a year in

1968, even I -- being just a child and a very young one at that -- was

acutely aware of the civil unrest with regards to this particular

situation.

The reaction to the announcement on Wednesday was not paranoid. It

was a legitimate reaction to a very real possibility.

Hey look a TIME arcticle said it was like War of the Worlds for the

country as well. I said that to and this is the first time I saw this

TIME article.

Raven answered: , I am not saying that the ensuing

pandemonium was not real. It was.

However, with War of the Worlds, Orson Wells had made it clear at

the beginning of the radio transmission that it was a radio play and

not real. It was also a far-fetched plot with aliens from

outerspace invading and over the course of the radio play, the

timeline was impossible for it to be real (remember, they did not

have the ability to get to a news story and then get it to the

people as instantly as we do now).

With the Belgian situation, the announcement cut IN to regular

programming and back out again like a real news announcement would

do. It was a very real and palpable situation since the fight for

separation within Belgium has been going on for decades now. The

timeline was possible because they did not come back on air and

provide 'news footage' that was impossible in this day and age to

get as quickly as it would have been gotten.

In other words, it was taken at face value because it was presented

exactly as it would if it was real and because the threat of

separation in Belgium is very real.

This was my point.

Just the similarity of what I said to compare it coming up elsewhere in the mainstream in facinating. It is two different things however.ravenmagic2003 <ravenmagic2003@...> wrote: wrote: "Hey look a TIME arcticle said it was like War of the Worlds for the country as well.
