Guest guest
"With all respect, what is it that people think the President can do without the cooperation of a fractured and "broken" Congress?I agree. I am quite sure that some of the leaks we're hearing of late are true: Obama was advised against taking up health care in his first term. One can quite reasonably argue that strategically, it was a high risk move, especially given the huge pile of turd soup that Bush left for him. He did it because it was the right thing to do.About every 20 years, the issue comes up. Under Truman, and nothing happened. Under , Medicare, under Nixon, nothing achieved, under Clinton, failure. If this measure does not pass, it is very likely that we will not see significant reform in the next 20 years. Arguing to go back to the drawing board is a pleasant way of saying "accept failure." Should that happen, the next president, and perhaps the congress, will be republican. Is that a good alternative to a health care bill that does not give you everything you want? You need to support the president and this bill, or think about the re-instatement of sodomy laws, further defunding of HIV research, and constitutional bans on gay marriage. And no, that is not exaggeration, it's reality.JB
