We all know the new research about how multiple injury to brain effects

the pituitary gland.   I currently have a women in her mid 50's

who has had multiple brain injury, stroke, and 3 brain surgeries.  She lives in Maine.  As a consequence of her TBI she has gained over

30 lbs.  She is eating correctly and is exercising, yet to no avail

can she loose the weight.   Her doctors say it is from the

trauma of her brain injury that her body is still protecting the

system.

Do any of you have any suggestions, protocols or methods to help.  I

have all the equipment and she is willing to do whatever is

necessary.  She's worked so hard to recover.

Thanks again.

Hi Diane,

Is this woman by any chance being prescribed an atypical antipsychotic medication (Seroquel, Abilify, Zyprexa, Geodon, etc.) or an antidepressant? Folks with head injuries often are and both classes of medication have weight gain as a common side-effect. Of course the acquired and traumatic injuries could have damaged metabolic centers as well.

Best of wishes with her, Ed Hamlin

Diane, I’m also working with a gentleman with brain injury and weight issues, I find that staying on the right side at c4-p4 or t4-p4 with a wide inhibit and reward at 9-12 or 8-11 should help. She needs more awareness.
