Guest guest Posted January 1, 2004 Report Share Posted January 1, 2004 I ran a load of laundry, now feel too lazy to fold the towels and put them away. I am running the dishwasher now, too. I cleaned the cooktop. Phew! I am exhausted. Ran to Albertson's and Von's looking for s shortbread, couldn't find any. I am starving for it now that Costco is out of it. Sigh. I procrastinated and now I am being punished. Hey, on the bright side, I did plant the rose I bought a couple days ago. Not bad...the rhubarb I left sit in a plastic bag for two weeks! Won't know if it is dead for months. I also cleaned and set up my large bird cage. Hey, I did get some stuff done. I put the littlest birdie back in the nest, he looked like he was dying. You've never had rubarb pie? Dang. Rhubarb is a vegetable/fruit. It is the sourest thing on earth -- worse than the juice of 50 lemons, so you have to use a TON of sugar to make it eatable. But once that sugar gets in there, it's ok. Not the best pie, not the worst. But I love rhubarb. My Irish Grandma made the best rhubarb pie on earth. She cooked it in a paper bag with crumble crust on top. I used to make it when I had rhubarb in my garden and I love it just cooked with sugar in a bowl. But I havent been able to get rhubarb anywhere (to plant, not eat- as the rhubarb in the store is to woody for me and stringy.) I have seen the ornamental rhubarb at the nursery but not the edible type...there is a difference...lol >But once that sugar gets in there, it's ok. They sell it at Robby's nursery in Rosedale. It is Supposed to be edible, but it doesn't like the heat here and gets tough. It is good in the early spring when it is tender, though. Even so, it is a beautiful foliage plant. You saw it near my pool, but didn't realize it, probably. I am trying a new spot where it will be cooler, I hope. I make sauce and eat it straight from the ground, yum! You can dip it in sugar, if you want. The sauce, I eat it without icecream or anything like that, too. My Grandma use to dig me up roots from hers to grow my own in B-town I planted it on the South side of my house and it did real well there.
