Hi Tripp,Full Social Security retirement (as opposed to early retirement, which would not make sense for someone receiving full Social Security disability insurance benefits) begins between 65 and 67, depending on what year you were born. If you were born in 1960 or after, your retirement age will be 67. If you were born in 1937 or earlier, your retirement age will be 65. If you were born between 1937 and 1960, your exact retirement year and month is determined by the year you were born. http://www.ssa.gov/retire2/retirechart.htm#chart. Your Social Security disability insurance benefits will continue until you reach your Social Security full retirement age.I expect that Social

Security retirement age will likely be up for negotiation after the deficit commission delivers its report soon. I'd guess that they would be more likely to recommend increases to the retirement age for people born after 1960, as they are further from retirement.

So, then, a person who is 65 and already on SSI need not apply for SSDI?thanksJonOn Nov 12, 2010, at 11:29 AM, R. wrote:Hi Tripp,Full Social Security retirement (as opposed to early retirement, which would not make sense for someone receiving full Social Security disability insurance benefits) begins between 65 and 67, depending on what year you were born.
