Guest guest
Jeff, All good questions, but without answers. Classically, the origins of osteoporosis and osteonecrosis are entirely different. The first is over activity of bone remodeling cells, the second a problem with blood supply. At the same time, I'm asking myself the same question: Perhaps if the erosion of bone goes to a certain point, perhaps the scaffolding of the bone begins to collapse, compromising the blood vessels, and reducing the blood supply. Just speculation, but you have to wonder. I am on tenofovir, but have already done testing to see if I am a Maviroc candidate. I don't see any harm with getting a DEXA now, but as you know, before 50, nobody really knows what it means........but on the same time, we've all seen plenty of men in their 40s with hip fractures. We'll see what they have to say at the aging conference in Baltimore next week. Good to see that they've updated the guidelines to start screening at 50 in HIV+ men, though wondering if I should get it now (48) >
