Metamucil and your medication

Someone started a thread on antacids with your medication. Another thing that people don't realize is that Metamucil and other psyllium (sp?) products should be taken two hours before or two hours after your medication. It can just coat and make your meds pass right out of you without dissolving.

I may have even found out about this on this list. I told my doctor, and he informed his other patients. I think that Metamucil may even mention this on the container now.

I remember that I was on an antacid for years that rendered one of my protease inhibitors ineffective. My doctor, who presribed both, never warned me about this. A pharmacist at CVS caught it. Unfortunately I had already become drug resistant to the protease inhibitor by then.

From my past experience I did have to time the taking of the 2 meds. However,

now on Atripla several years and take both at the same time. I have always been

undectable (since they started measuring) and my Cd4 count remains fairly steady
