Joint pain in my knees (or is that just the arthritis -- YOU JUST WAIT FOR THE MAMA JO LECTURE -- YOU ARE GETTING THE ANN LECTURE (standing, squinting eyes and FROWNING)! I CANNOT BELIEVE you are not compliant! Yes, lack of calcium will cause you to shrink! I had osteopenia preop and spinal disease and I have lost 2 inches in height -- you bet your butt I am compliant with my supplements. Aching muscles are often a lack of vitamins and minerals especially magnesium, Run, girl, don't walk and get those vitamins into your system. Probably Vita4LIfe would be the best way to go since you have been noncompliant. But TODAY start taking your vitamins and calcium -- RIGHT NOW! Guest guest
Melisa... I read your post earlier today and had to walk away and Cool off/calm down before I wrote. Let me address your actual question before I rake your A$$ over the coals. The only reliable way to tell if you are indeed shrinking is to measure...simple. You could indeed be shrinking....or....you could just be taking up less space in the room and people don't view you the same. Since losing weight, I have got many comments along the line of " Your not tall at all! " " I thought you were tall but your not " . I also have experienced the same thing with other DSers that I met while they were heavy, Then when I saw them again much thinner my impression was " they are not as tall as I remembered " So your shrinkage could just be that your not taking up as much space and people perceive you different. On the other hand...you could indeed be shrinking and It wouldn't hurt to measure that way your not going on perception, but fact. I am going to recommend AGAINST Vita-4-life. I take Vita-4-life. I like them. They " work " for me and make it easier for me to " get it all in " . But they can be pricey for convenience. Your supplements should NOT be something that you have to SAVE up for. They should be something that you can afford on a daily basis FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!! My fear is that you will " hit and Miss " taking them because you can't afford to order them. And If you Don't have them to take, they are worthless...sitting on a shelf in a wherehouse does not do your body any good at all. Can lack of supplements cause muscle and joint aches...yes indeed. So can other things like arthritis....not giving your body the " tools " " supplements " it needs to be strong and healthy does not help. Ok now for the A$$ kicking. Melisa what can I say that you don't already know. Do you honestly think you've been sailing through these last two years Not taking your suppliments and getting away with it? You are aware that when you become seriously lacking in a vitamin or mineral it can almost take an act of God to get caught back up. This can lead to organ damage...heart, liver, kidneys.... People struggle for months upon months feeling like shit and constantly at the doctors trying to regain health. You do know that the damage done from lack of calcium is PERMANENT. You can't rebuild bone by deciding to start to take calcium. What taking calcium does is help PREVENT bone loss. So any boneloss that you have experienced these last two years are NOT coming back. Kiss it goodbye. All day I've been trying to figure out " why " . Why does Melisa have such a disregard for her health, her life? Does she think she is Magically protected and " bad things can't happen to her " Does she like the Idea of suffering in pain from compressed disks for the rest of her life? Does she seek attention...so she'll make herself Ill? Is she self-destructive, so with the weight gone she has to use lack of supplementation to self-destruct. As a mother I can't understand how you could be so selfish. If your not healthy, how can you take care of your family. If you become ill that can practically destroy your kids youth. Having a mother sick and having to attend to her CHEATS the kids in so many ways I couldn't possibly cover it here. Mothers become ill and when it happens it sucks...but when it could have been easily prevented that is shameful. Don't you want to be ACTIVE, Vibrant, MOBILE in the years to come? If you Do...It starts TODAY. You build your Tomorrow, TODAY! Get your A$$ on a routine of taking your supplements. Get Family to help remind you. And start TODAY! Jo Aren't you glad I cooled down before I responded.

The only thing I would add is that you probably need more water! Also, emphasize again, by the time you shrink, you have already broken vertebrae or compressed disks. Some shrinkage occurs with aging, but damage you do today may not show up for years, people! Marta
