It is snowing this morning in Boston while we start CROI (Conference on Retrovirus and Opportunistic Infections), the most important  HIV research conference in the world. Thousands of people are attending to discuss the latest scientific data on immune -based therapies that may lead to the cure of AIDS, new drugs, ways to manage HIV related comorbidities and drug side effects, vaccines to prevent or treat HIV infection, pre-exposure prophylaxis, virology and immunology, issues surrounding drug access in the developing world, and many other  important topics. There will be 7950 oral and poster presentations about all of these issues. This surely is a new era in HIV treatment!

The conference has given scholarships to 35 international community activists and over 200 young investigators that are starting their careers as researchers. I was happy to be one of these lucky people who can drink from this  fountain of information!

This is truly the first CROI that will be covering the latest data on AIDS Cure research, so I am very excited about what is ahead of us during the next 4 days. I will be reporting daily about what I learn at thebody.com, so stay tuned!
