Guest guest
I have seen several articles about HIV and gene therapyover the past 2-3 years, and we have seen also more findson understanding how the virus operate and how can it be disabled.Soon or later some of this research will hold some positiveresults it is just a matter of time.I remember when in the 1980s doctors would say that in 10-20 years HIV would become amanageable life condition, and that is where we are now, more or less.As always fingers crossed..Mark BFrom: Barrow <barrowster@...> Sent: Sat, June 19, 2010 11:37:42 AMSubject: Re: Can Gene Therapy Cure AIDS? "that seems to be great news!! put gene therapy into practice that is another question...but this is probably the future of medicine"There is going to be a race between at least these two approaches:1. Finding ways of activating latently infected cells, so that they can be flushed from places they are hiding, and attacked with existing medications.2. Gene therapies that remove inserted DNA or attack the same reservoirs.Personally, I suspect that agents to flush reservoirs will be cheaper and happen sooner, but it's a great race to have happening!JB
