zoloft & hyperactivity/mania

My 4 year old just started on liquid zoloft- I think it's the equivalent of

10mg. Today was the first day & at first she was tired & her stomach felt

funny. But by afternoon and in to the evening, she became very hyper- which is

not her normal behavior. I took her on an hour walk at bedtime because she was

so wound. This is a child who usually tells me that her legs are too tired

after a 5-10 minute walk. And tonite, she was asking to keep walking around the

block one more time- " to get some energy out. " I know that the SSRIs can cause

either hyperactivity or sleepiness. I also know that they can trigger a manic

episode for someone with a propensity towards bipolar. Has anyone else had an

experience like this? Did the side effect subside as the child got used to the

med or was it a side effect that remained over time? I'll contact her

psychiatrist, but I am interested to hear of others experiences.
