Up to 2400 mg/day is the dosage.

N-acetyl cysteine is preferable to the L-cysteine form as it is more stable and

remains elevated in the blood for longer periods of time.

Cysteine is an amino acid which is detoxifying for the body. One primary usages

is the liver uses it to manufacture glutathione, which is found in every cell of

the body except for those who are HIV+ where it is usually deficient.

(One reason why cysteine is touted as majorly " detoxifying " .)

Glutathione has been reported to combine with heavy metals, herbicides,

pesticides, and plastics while neutralizing them from the body.

Cysteine is part of the collagen molecule and can help clear up unknown skin

rashes, eczema, and psoriasis.

You will be interested to know that cysteine is also part of the hair structure,

comprising 8% of the shaft. Limited in our diets, found concentrated in the

egg... one large egg has about 250 mg cysteine. As a dietary supplement, it is

often available in 600 mg units in capsule form (do not buy tablets) as a " free

form " amino acid. It is reported to increase the rate of hair growth and to

cause an increase in the diameter of the hair shaft. (I had my elderly mother on

it and she complained it was making her mustache thicker.)

Another bonus is that it is a mucolytic, helping to liquefy mucus deposits

making it excellent for the lungs... helping treat sinusitis, asthma,

bronchitis. Italian MDs concluded that taking cysteine lessened the debilitating

effects of the flu.

I hope you'll find this info useful.

May God bless you.

> Hi Everyone,

> I was wondering if anyone else on the list has had this happen to them. I've

always had a very thick head of hair. I'm in my late fifties, and have been on

HIV drugs since 1994. The only time I ever had a drastic hair loss, was when I

had a urinary tract infection that wouldn't go away for six months. I was on

all kinds of antibiotics, and it finally cleared up. My hair then came back in

thick again, but curly for quite awhile lol. Now I've been on a couple of

different drugs for the past four months. The doctor finally took me off those

horrible Fuzeon shots. I'm now on Prezista, Norvir, Truvada and Isentress.

Plus I take Barraclude, Neurontin, BP pill, Water Pill, Synthroid, Valtrex, and

sleeping medication. I also moved into a brand new apartment on the same

property, but the water tastes kind of funky, and for months it was turning the

toilet bowl and the sinks a reddish color that I had to scrub out. I can't

think of what would be doing this to my hair, it's really freaking me out. I

guess stressing about it makes it worse. Has anyone else gone through this?

It's just weird because up to a few mo's ago, the barber commented on how thick

my hair was, and now it seems like half the thickness.
