Guest guest
For some the meds are just to hard especially mentally . My brother in laws brother commited suicide on tx , and he didn't have a mental problem til he was on the meds . So if before tx his behavior was one way and then changed during the treatment process it is safe to say the meds made him do those things . And if that is the case then having you behind him may help in court . Re: Interferon and long term effects renia and bipolar. He also has hep c with cirrosis stage 4 , diabetes, thyroid problems, high blood pressure and neuopathy. he did tx for 9 months last year and was also on his anti psychotic meds. his tx didnt work for him and they stopped his interferon. within a month he stopped his other meds for mental illness, and he got really sick. he was very impulsive and did some things he shouldnt have. he is now in a texas jail for stealing a car and wanted in tennessee for a robbery, am i wrong to contibute his behavior to a year almost on interferon and going off his mental health meds and doing drugs? he was out of control. i want to defend him in court. i am so sick over all of this. Guest guest
Beth, I don't know much about the long term affects of inerferon and ribavirin, although I have been on them both 2 different times. I do want to say, that my Mother has been severe bi-polar for over 35 years, and has been hospitalized with it many, many times over the years. I have been witness to her manic episodes - and I can tell you first hand, that a bi-polar patient in extreme manic state, can very well do things such as you mention, without all of his other health issues. My Mother did things, that I don't care to go into, but because she was a older little woman, with no criminal record, and had medical evidence proving she had been very ill for a long time - they didn't prosecute. Her manic episodes were always and still are brought on when she is no longer on her lithium, which is one of several medications that help to keep this chemical imbalance of the brain - balanced. I am so sorry for you friend - I will keep you both in my prayers.. May God Bless you and yours -- Re: Interferon and long term effects renia and bipolar. Guest guest
Hey , I to am bi-polar & manic with suicidal tendencies. It's awful. Iv'e have been battleing this for yrs. I'm 44 yrs. old now, & I'll battle this forever, just like the hep c. If I surrive & get lucky & the treatments work. I'm on 300 mg. of lithium 3 x a day. I have went off my meds several times, & like you said it is undescibable. I use to be ashamed to tell anyone but I'm not anymore. It's an illness- disease just like the hep c, cancer & and all the other diseases out there. At least now peole do reconize it. But yes it is very hard to deal with. My mom went through so much with me during my episodes. It was very hard on her. And now the hep c. But you know she never left me & never would. I'm very blessed to have such a wonderful mother. So please hang in there with yours. My thoughts & prayers are with you. lisadavies2821 <davies2821@...> wrote: Beth, I don't know much about the long term affects of inerferon and ribavirin, although I have been on them both 2 different times. Guest guest
I too am bipolar. I take my meds and am for the most part "normal". LOL Before I started meds, Oh Lord. I drew a gun on my husband twice!!! Thank God for my son, he was able to talk me out of shooting his Dad! It was about that time, I said "I can't live like this". I understood that without my meds I am a crazy woman. With my meds, well I am told that I am a very sweet woman with a big heart. Go figure. Guest guest
Hi Beth, How well I understand your pain. My son is Schizno-Affective as well and he is also sitting in a Texas prison. Currently he is on lockdown after an outburst and a suicide attempt. They refuse him the Cogentin that handles the side effects from his meds so he is taking none. He was supposed to come home Nov. 30th but under the circumstances it is highly unlikely. How devastating and sick and sad it is that our society punishes the mentally ill as opposed to helping them. I have been around and around with TDCJ to no avail. All we can do is wait until July when they HAVE to let him out. He has been off and on gone with this for 10 years, currently he is down 2+ years. If you would like to talk more on this subject, so as not to be too OT on the list, please email me. Guest guest
Hi Nikki, I'm so sorry to hear of your siyuation, my heart truely goes out to you! I have been battleing these issues for my whole life. I also have 3 children that inherrited it as well. Along with 2 nephews & 2 neices. It's a freiken nightmare! My 27 yr. old daghter is real bad, she has Bi-Polar, Manic Dep., Sczophrenia, Adhd, with suicidal tendencies, I've had to get her out of jails, & lots of other messes. She lost her children, which I know really put her over the edge. Than my 23 yr. old son now (this is a trip) he's gifted, go figure! But see that can be just as bad. He's been in so much trouble, but he refuses to take any meds. He does seem to be doing better! He has a little boy now so I think most of his time is spent on him, thank God! He was living in Dallas Tx. but he moved backed to Tennessee, he got into alot of trouble in Dallas, I know he has warrents there. I told him he needs to get that took care of, but of course he doesn't listen. Then theres my 17 yr. old, shes such a sweetheart, shes Bi-Polar, Manic Dep. Suicidal tendencies, shes also a cutter. I'm not sure if you know what that is? But it's someone who cuts themselves to take away any emotional pain they have @ the time!!! Shes all scarded up, it's very sad. But shes on her meds & doing much better. Shes really quite a good girl. All three of them are very smart, but they are also mentally ill just like their mother. You just have to hang in there, I know it's hard, the system sucks, beleive me I know.I've been fighting it for yrs., we just have to keep fighting. Take Care & anytime you want to talk I'm here. My heart & prayers go out to you & your son!!! Nikki Cowan <nikkicowan@...> wrote: Hi Beth, How well I understand your pain. My thoughts & prayers are with you. lisadavies2821 <davies2821aol> wrote: Beth, I don't know much about the long term affects of inerferon and ribavirin, although I have been on them both 2 different times. Guest guest
, So good to talk to you - so sorry it took me a while to get back to everyone, as I have been ill with, I guess a bad case of the flu. I think it's wonderful that you have so much support, bi-polar is very much so.........a disease just like anything else, and unless people are educated to this, the are just simply ignorant to it and it's affects. I am not bi-polar myself, I do though take an antidepressant for my depression that I have been on for about 7 years. However, I have watched my Mother endure and struggle very much from the effects of being bi-polar. It is a chemical inbalance or the brain, it's a form of salt chemical that are brain needs and usually makes, however people that are bi-polar, their brain doesn't produce enough of this chemical. I know my Mom has to have blood test all the time to make sure that she doesn't get toxic, as they have to monitor the amount they give you. Dear - you should never be ashamed of this disease, it is something that you were born with and have no control over, it's in the genes. Millions in the US alone have this disease also. I think I was ashamed of being depressed and needing to go and get help for a very long time I didn't tell the doctor about it. I was brought up in the "old school" so to speak, and my Father was so old school, he didn't believe at all in mental illness, in fact he and my Mother divorced over her illness back in the 70's. He ended up raising me, and I remember when I was little I would hear him talk about my Mother and that her being mentally sick was just a "cop out" so to speak. And that she was just a weak person. I learned after many years of my own suffering w/ depression that it is not a cop out on life, it's a illness and it takes allot more strength and a stronger person to get help and do something about it - then it does to do nothing. I probably was depressed many years before I ever went and seen a doctor for it... So glad you have your Mom around to help you... Keep in touch - and keep your chin up.... YOu sound like your doing great..... May God Bless you and yours Love, hugs, and prayers, Marie -- Re: Interferon and long term effects renia and bipolar.
