The birds seem to have left the area for some reason. There are usually some around, but for the last month of so I haven't heard or seen any.

Maybe that is what happened here, though I haven't seen anything about West Nile in the news. None of the other birds have been affected though. Certainly not the Robins: last week there were scores of them in the neighborhood.

Ever since the West Nile virus came up here, we haven't seen a blue

jay in our yard. (They were apparently completely killed off in our

neighborhood).

The bird population in general is recovering, though.

Happily, we never lost the cardinals.

How are the squirrels doing?

I haven't seen the squirrels around here for a long time.

Wow, we only get the odd one or two robins around here - I found out

where their nest was last year though.

I like the robins around here, one frequents my back yard, but I have

not seen it for a while - though I avoid standing at the kitchen sink

too much :-) which is where the window is overlooking my backyard and

local park.

When West Nile hit a few years back, it killed off most of the

robins and the crows and blue jays. The robins have returned, but

not the crows and blue jays yet.
