Guest guest
yes it does.. I know that my doc HAS to hand write on my lab slip that they may give me a copy, but they dont give out the results.. they will only MAIL a copy to my house. But it sounds like he wont even send her to quest or any other lab except the one he wants and has control over. THIS really makes me angry, after all, its HER body!elizabethnv1 <elizabethnv1@...> wrote: Oh man poor Sheena , I forget that here in Nevada we go straight to the lab if we want results and blood drawn . In Cali you get blood work done at the doc's office . I do know that Quest is a major lab there in Ca and if she can get to the lab they will give the results . That way she doesnt have to wait for the doc for the results . But it sounds like her doc is dropping the ball so to speak . Guest guest
What is HIPPA? My doctors office would always call me with the results of any tests. Then I would have them FAX me copies. That was never any problem. If you have an all-in-one printer you should have a FAX mode on it. I've never heard that giving info over the phone is not allowed. Guest guest
Hippa is the privacy law that they enacted a few years ago.. it prohibits them from giving out your info to anyone over the phone unless they can fully identify you.. and the person who passes out the info is held responsible for any errors in this so most are not willing to pass it out.. I knew one guy in the lab in oregon and he would always give me my info because he felt he could identify me but the rest in the lab,,, forget it.... Here where I NOW live, they can only MAIL you a copy of the results, they will not fax them, nor will they give them to you even if you show up in person... I used to get so frustrated about this when I first moved here.. but I have learned to just live with it... usually by the time I get a copy in the mail, my doc has already received the results by fax and THEY will give them to me over the phone because they know my voice etc... I think its stupid because no one would call and want to know MY lab results other than me cuz no one would even know I'd had them drawn... But the Hippa act has made it very hard for us to get our results over the phone.. actually unless you have a pin number here in the hosp,, you can't even call a hosp that perhaps a family member is in and get ANY info, they cant even tell you IF they are admitted or being seen in the emergency room,, its all about the patients privacy.. Guest guest
Thanks for the info Jackie, Thats that form that you sign when you see a new doctor. I never tried to get them straight from the lab, I would get them from the doctors office and they all knew me. On the FAX thing, before they started doing that they did ask me if I was the only one with access to it. Guest guest
you are welcome Lee.. its so hard to get an answer that applies to all of us,, it seems that each state has its own version of the hippa act... but the bottom line IS that it IS OUR OWN INFO, OUR OWN BODIES, and THEY SHOULD NOT have the right to keep it from us!Lee <leecuate@...> wrote: Thanks for the info Jackie,Thats that form that you sign when you see a new doctor.
