Hi Barb,

IMP of the MIND by Lee Baer, Ph.D. is a great read on obsessive

thoughts. It's not only easy to read, he answers a lot of questions.

We had a punching bag in the basement - it only worked sometimes,

mostly because it didn't react when it was punched!! Remember to tell

your son that perfectionism is like a mountain and he has to climb it

by making mistakes - like Dr. Aureen Wagners' Casey who climbs the

Worry Hill.

I used to work for Youth Services Bureau! They may have someone who can

help with Parenting, however you will probably have to wait for some

time. They are more geared to counselling with youth and support for

parents. If a youth arranges his own intake call he will be a higher

priority than if a parent makes the call. What part of Ottawa are you

in, maybe I can check out the waiting list for you - I am still in

touch with some of my old colleagues.

There are other resources for parenting assistance such as:

Catholic Family Services

Family Service Centre

Jewish Family Services

Any community health centre etc.

All are recipients of United Way funding so everyone, regardless of

religion is eligible for treatment. There may be a sliding scale for

services.

Who is your son's therapist? We went to CHEO and Dr. Palframan.

You will be fine, just remember to take some me time and keep those

boundaries in place!
