Guest guest
Hi: In answer to your question about seizures, my 5 year old son also has a seizure disorder that began just before his 2nd birthday after a serious viral illness. I can relate to what you're talking about with the rumbling stomach during seizures, because we frequently hear this when our son has his seizures. He is not yet seizure-free, but I can tell you some of what we have done for him in the past 2 years that have helped reduce the number of seizures, as well as the severity of them. We started with the gluten-free, casein-free diet which dramatically helped the distended stomach and began to lift the fog from him and help him learn. We then added a yeast-free diet when I noticed that sugary foods or fruit seemed to make him more hyper. About that time we began Ojibwa Tea (a very small amount per day). At that time, my son went 6 months without seizures. I then began to learn about mercury toxicity and the role it plays in causing autism in some children. About 4 months ago I found a dr. in our area that would test him for metal toxicity and sure enough he has high levels of mercury. His mineral levels are way off as well, which I understand can cause seizures. He has begun the chelation process, along with supplements that his body needs right now to help bring his body more in balance and to help begin to heal his gut. My son has a ways to go, but the improvements since we began all these interventions (from the start of the GFCF diet) have all contributed to less autistic behavior and to a lessening of his seizures. Gone are the days of grand-mal seizures and vomiting. Right now we're just dealing with mild ones and a lot less of them. I'm not saying what we did will be what works for your son, but we all need to try all of these different interventions and find what helps our kids the best. I haven't tried the enzymes yet (I've just been lurking here on the list to learn what I can about them and then want to run them by my new dr. to see if it might be of help to my son. Just another intervention that I'm willing to try soon to help him recover). I hope they will be of help to your child. Sharon
