Guest guest
I really do not know what to do about this situation. First of all, I have a 3.5 year old DS with dx of PDD NOS. I am fairly certain he is vaccine injured because there was a clear decline starting when he was 18 mo - 2 years old. I had a talk with my pediatrician a few weeks ago about yeast and mercury testing, and she said that these were in the " alternative " medicine end of things that she knew little about, but that she understood my desire to try anything to help my son. She agreed to order any test I wanted, just find out which test to order and she would go along with it. I was thrilled, because my local DAN doctor (Bradstreet) can no longer accept new patients. Now for the problem. I now have a three week old DD. We had a talk about an alternative vaccine schedule at her 1 week visit. My doc agreed to delay Hep B and Chickenpox until school age. She also gave me the option of refusing Prevnar, and agreed to delay MMR until 18 months. She also said that if I wanted to separate the MMR vaccines I could go through the health dept. That leaves the DTaP, IPV, and HIB, normally given all at once at 2 and 4 months. She agreed to split these up into monthly shots at 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 months. This all sounded great to me at the time. However, now I have done more research. I hear that the DTaP is a problem (not quite sure how), that the thimerisol may not be out of the vaccines completely since manufacturers are using up their stock first, and that the blood-brain barrier is not fully formed until 6 months. Also, I find now that the HIB is only required for child care and preschool entry, and my DS is not attending either until at least 18 months. I would like to continue taking to her since she is being so cooperative about the testing, but I have no further issue with vaccines with (the damage is already done, and he is pretty much done with vaccines). I am however, thinking of finding another doc for Leah that would agree to dalay all vaccines until 6 months of age. I would not be able to forgive myself if I agreed to all these vaccines and Leah ended up vaccine damaged as well. I am thinking of finding another doc for Leah, then laying it on the line for my current doc at Leah's 5 week visit, and seeing what she thinks. I really like this doc and we even went to high school together, but I don't think I can bring myself to vaccinate Leah just yet. One of 's classmates who is also AS has a 15 month old sister who had all her vaccines up to 9 months and now is not talking at all yet, this is basically what started me rethinking the vaccine issue. Her poor mother is very worried. Am I being overly crazy about the vaccine thing? Does anyone know what the deal is with the DTaP and the blood-brain barrier? What is the current wisdom in the AS community about vaccines? Any advice would be appreciated. Alice.
