Guest guest
Hi Eileen. This isn't Tamara, but I thought I would respond with my dd's experience. OCD can cause trouble concentrating because the child is too focused on the things that are part of their OCD. For my dd, recently diagnosed with bipolar, the lack of attention, from mania, was extreme. She went from a child who could focus to one who couldn't watch 5 minutes of the season premiere of her favorite show. She literally couldn't focus on anything. It was very sad to watch, as it was very different from her normal. With treatment her focusing is definitely improving, though not yet at the her old normal. Good luck. Guest guest
Hi Eileen, There's a lot of overlap in symptoms with OCD, BP and other conditions. At first I thought C's only problem was OCD, because group members could relate to all of Chris' symptoms. Meds like risperdal can also cause cognitive dulling. As far as defiant behavior is concerned, I'm wondering if impending adolescence isn't a big part of it. Tamara > Hi Eileen. This isn't Tamara, but I thought I would respond with my dd's > experience. Guest guest
I think when the focusing issue is caused by OCD, it is just a matter of getting the OCD under control. Of course, if it is caused by ADHD or bipolar it is a different issue, and won't be better just by getting the OCD under control. Kim In a message dated 2/17/2007 2:59:38 P.M. Guest guest
Hi Eileen, My daughter has ocd and bipolar also. Please remember each child is different. My daughter never disrespects her teachers, but she has severe attentional issues. Hugs Judy
Guest guest
thanks - I don't know if disrespect is too harsh - I'd say they're still shocked that she has no fear etc of being sent to the principal or never showed it and I've been told her " behavior " is better lately re: listening the 1st or 2nd time not 4th ( I guess that's disrespect unless of course she's in the middle of an OCD thought/ritual and can't listen ) I really need to get in there and play spy!!! - thanks eileen Quoting jchabot <jchabot@...>: > Hi Eileen, > My daughter has ocd and bipolar also. Guest guest
makes sense - thanks - I'm guessing by the teacher saying she's doing better as I'm seeing the ocd more undercontrol that that's what we're seeing thanks eileen Quoting mnmomof1@...: > > I think when the focusing issue is caused by OCD, it is just a matter of > getting the OCD under control.
