Guest guest
Hey: My daughter is a Senior in HS right now. Her OCD is getting intensified with the normal developmental stuff of anticipating college and leaving home, and Senioritis is kicking in big time. She is blowing off homework and such, and we are really having to push her hard to just get to school in the morning. She was accepted at all her college choices. I thought getting into a competitive school would motivate her to really put it together the last semester, but she seems to be in denial about the connection between her homework and graduation and college entrance. She's just acting the same. In helping choose a college we have spoken to the schools she has chosen and asked them about living in a single room. Part of daughter's OCD is the inability to take a shower. She thinks she hears someone banging on the door and she will miss a dire emergency. THis has been going on so long that the anxiety has looped on itself and just the THOUGHT of showering makes her anxious. She has to call her boyfriend to talk her down from the anxiety while she's in the bathroom with the water running, sometimes for as long as an hour, until she can actually step in the shower. It's stressful on us all, especially her. Another facet of her OCD is the inabililty to maintain friendships. SHe's great at superficial stuff, but she has dropped all her friends over the years, keeping just a boyfriend. She finds something wrong with friends and just won't make an effort to see them. Of course they find it really hard to understand and won't reciprocate anymore. We realized that to be living away from home she would absolutely need a single room. BOth of her top pick schools were very understanding and indicated they would be very willing to help out and make allowances, as well as helping to arrange regular counseling and med evaluations and helping find support groups. I couldn't imagine trying to get her into school without several people there already knowing about her OCD. We've got our fingers crossed. I really feel for those of you who are trying to launch an OCD kid into independence. It's really hard!
Guest guest
Thanks for sharing that . Yeah, " senioritis " kicking in this last month or so! That's good to hear from you about the colleges being understanding and working with you on your dd's needs. Hope we have the same good fortune in a year or two when it's time for to transfer to one! > > Hey: > > My daughter is a Senior in HS right now.
