Guest guest
Hi Guys, I was wondering if anyone had information on why kids with immune problems shouldn't take probiotics. has gotten septic twice within the last couple of months from bacteria found in the gut (enterobacter. We bought a new brand of extra strength acidophilus shortly before his first septic episode. Then 2 weeks after being off of the IV antibiotics for it, it came back. They ended up removing his port because they thought it had colonized in or on it. The cultures from his port and port tip never grew anything. They said his sepsis was from his gut and they are reluctant to replace the port in fear it will happen again. A friend of mine mention that she had hear that some probioitcs can cause sepsis in immune def people. I was wondering it this could be a possiblity for ? Could the probiotics harm his norma flora and make him sick? Any information, thoughts, and/or suggestions would greatly be appreciated. ~ Mommy to 3yr old with PID and etc.... www.caringbridge.org/visit/matthewfranson
