Man this IVIG thing is starting to scare me even more! My child can not

take augmentin due to it not doing well with autism, so this really does

worry me.

Subject: ped called

Talked to the ped...it sounds like an infection to her. Since he started

Augmentin today, it should be okay and can take up to 36 hours for the

Augmentin to work. I circled the redness...I have to check it every 3 hours

and if it gets bigger need to call her again.

The only skin infection that Augmentin won't take care of is MRSA. So we

should be covered. She said MRSA generally starts out as a boil with lots of

pus...I wonder if kids with neutropenia/chemotaxis problems would develop

pus with MRSA? J never had it with his cellulitis-when he was admitted,

they could not even culture it because there was no pus.

Since he has never had this type of injection site reaction before, I don't

know f it is normal or not. He's NEVER had pain at the injection site

before, I do know that.

I am glad that he has a sinus infection today. First time for everything,

huh? Who'd of thunk it? Me, happy about a sinus infection. Without the

sinus infection, he wouldn't be on Augmentin already!

Peace Be With You,

Pattie

My boys also have neutropenia and a neutrophil chemotaxis defect. Augmentin

has never been prescribed for their skin infections before. Usually they

get Keflex or Clindamycin. It just so happened that he started Augmentin

yesterday for a sinus infection and it also works for skin infections.....

The ped is calling in 4 more days of Augmentin XR 1000.

Because he is allergic to cephalosporins, we can't use those. Z-max doesn't

cover sinus infections as well and we want to save Clindamycin for his skin

infections (sad to hear she thinks he has frequent skin infections-I want to

pretend he doesn't! talk about DeNial!) He had Clinda in March for

cellulitis.

So, other than using it for a longer time, we don't have much choice. We'll

do a CT when we get back from Camp Sunshine to be sure the infection is

clear...

Grace and peace be with you,

Pattie
