Guest guest
I have a problem I never thought I would have to face or at least not for a few years when I was back to full time employment. I was rear ended in a car accident a couple days ago and I and my 6 mo old were hurt. Still don't know about my 6 yr old PID kiddo since she has a really high pain tolerance she doesn't always recognize pain unless its severe. I've never been in an accident before and everyone is telling me I'll be getting a settlement since the insurance companies don't want to go to court. Here's where the problem lies, both kids are on medi-cal (Medicaid) since were low income. This has been wonderful since having 2 special needs kids is rather expensive and the copays alone would eat up what little money I get. A settlement of even $1k would be enough that they would kill the insurance coverage and because of dx's on both kids I know there's no way I can get private health insurance for them. Any advice on how to deal with this? A settlement would mean a better standard of living for us (even if only for a year) but it seems to be a trade of the worst kind. Better living conditions and no health insurance or tiny, cramped less then stellar living conditions with fantastic health insurance that covers dd's IVIG without fuss. dd6 Combined Immune Def + Selective Antibody Def, B & T Cell Defect dd6 mo Saethre-Chotzen Syndrome, developmental delays, checking for same defect as big sis since she's had 3 URI's and the flu in the last 4 months. Guest guest
, It can take a very long time to reach a settlement from an accident. First and foremost, I wouldn't settle anything for at least a year. I was in a significant MVA back in 1989 and it wasn't settled until 1992. An injury settlement may not affect the medi-cal as much as you think...I would probably talk with my case manager through the social services of your county if it comes to that. Don't know if I helped much or not, but I don't think a check is in the mail that quick.... Mom to , PID, hypogam, selective antibody deficiency and NK cell defect, on scig... igh, CAPD, ADD, sensory integration...delightful Kaitlyn and Libby...healthy.. What to do when you face loosing your health insurance? I have a problem I never thought I would have to face or at least not for a few years when I was back to full time employment.
